Anti fungal cream: If there is a single lesion u can use anti fungal cream like LOTRIMIN (clotrimazole) which is over the counter and u need to gently massage it in. If there are multiple lesions then u may want to see a dermatologist to get oral antifungal medications. Scalp ringworms are difficult to treat locally. Both have to be used for a prolonged period with the cream to be used for at least 4-6 weeks.

Unlikely to fix it: Scalp ringworm invades the hair at the root, creating a continuous source of new infection. Creams you put on the scalp can kill off some of the exposed fungus, but they don't penetrate deep enough to kill it all. Many times it takes a month or two of prescribed oral meds to cure it.
