i have mild tinnitus, but some days i wake up with really loud ringing in my ears. its not from a noisy environment. seems to correlate to poor sleep, but not always. today they are howling. no meds last night. suggestions? to control or minimize?

SEVERAL OPTIONS: Tinnitus is a tough one. No clear treatment if it is primary so look for any causes. Do you do a lot of aspirin? Are you exposed to loud sounds? Try to make sue that you get rest, eat healthy , and exercise. See a physician to evaluate for tinnitus and Meniers's Disease.

acute ringing in ear (tinnitus) last 24 hrs.  also weird "buzzing" sensation in head.  not quite vertigo though.  does this sound like meniere's ?

Tinnitus: Tinnitus or "ringing" or "buzzing" in the ears are common symptoms which can be short lived or chronic.  It is associated with hearing loss.  Sudden onset tinnitus can occur in patients with noise exposure or ear infections.  If symptoms persist or worsen over 3 or more weeks, it is recommended to see your doctor for an evaluation.  In the absence of vertigo Meniere's is less likely.

sis-in-law,42, 2nd shot of moderna on 03/29.fatigue and dizziness after that.last few days,mild migraine,ears ringing, buzz. head.found uti@ home. saw doc,bl/ur tests fine.antibio-5 d. history of migraine/tinnitus.was fine before vaccine. any advice?

: I'm not convinced that her symptoms,which are nonspecific, are vaccine induced. I also note that the migraine&amp;tinnitus are not new symptoms.  I don't understand the rationale for antibiotics if her urine test was fine. I would reassure her that she will return to her baseline health status soon.

Teeth clenching??: Tinnitus - ringing in the ears - could be from many causes including exposure to very loud sounds.  One of the reasons is from teeth clenching.  The same nerve - trigeminal nerve - that controls the jaw closing muscles also has a branch that controls tensor tympani muscle that controls tension of the ear drum.  Hence the connection.  Have an evalution by a dentist expert in treating tmd to check.

Investigate.: There's really no medication, sight unseen, that can help tinnitus universally.  If your tinnitus is due to inflammation, then there may be a medication that can help.  If your tinnitus is due to damage, then this may be permanent.  We won't know for sure without an investigation by an ENT physician.

i have mild pulsatile tinnitus. taking a med with low risk of "ringing in ears". no difference so far on the pulsatile. is the med safe to be taken?

Tinnitus: Pulsatile tinnitus is usually caused a blood traveling through an artery around or near the ear.  Is the medicine you are taking suppose to stop the tinnitus?  IF you are asking if it will cause more pulsatile tinnitus, it is hard to answer that without knowing what the medicine is you are taking. Different medications more apt to cause tinnitus than others.

Not seen: As noted in other response, i've seen with wellbutrin and meds affecting norepinephrine such as cymbalta (duloxetine).  Anxiety makes it worse.  Check hearing and consider low dose of klonopin.

Tinnitus: Great question. Depends on the source. The neck can cause ear noises as well as the jaw. Caffeine, stress, chocolate, ibuprofen and aspirin may as well. See and ENT to check it out

can anxiety cause tinnitus? or worsen ringing in ears? it seems like i always had faint ringing, it seems worse now. but i'm struggling with anxiety.

Yes, anxiety can: Make your tinnitus worse.  I can make any physical symptom worse.  Ask your behavior therapist about the possibility of learning self-hypnosis or meditation to help you.  Peace and good health.

i was put on amitriptyline for tinnitus but you say a side effect is ringing in ears.  why would my dr prescribe this?

Hard to treat: Tinnitus is difficult to treat and amitriptyline is an antidepressant and a pain medication. It can be helpful for some.
