Requires rx meds: If it is true scalp ringworm it infects the hair root, well below where any topical cream or shampoo will reach. To cure it would require prescription oral meds that reach the hair root through the blood. Creams &amp; shampoos can assist the process, but not cure true scalp ringworm.

Acne Rx/ringworm: Usually acne care is a drying agent, so fungus develops from wetness like ringworm. You treat ringworm with clotrimazole cr 1% OTC 3x/d until gone keeping area pat dry. You can continue your acne care as needed.

how long are you supposed to leave anti fungal cream on ring worm for? do you rub in or leave on skin for a while?

Accepted Answer

: You put on an amount equal to that needed for you to know its there but not easy to remove with a tissue. (thin layer) You then leave it there to dissipate at random. Most are re-applied so they go on 2X/day.

Hard to say: Hard to say much without more detailed history and a photo.  If you think it looks like ringworm and you don't have a fever or rapidly progressing rash, try an over the counter antifungal for a week.  Generic Clotrimasole will work.  Continue for several weeks twice a day until clear. If at any point it worsens again, you will need to be seen. I hear great things about your health system!

Hyperpigmentation: Any time you have skin infections or significant skin rashes, the pigment cells in the skin cells can be stimulated and have heightened activity, leaving darkening of the skin called hyperpigmentation. This can last for months after the infection has cleared, even with the infection cleared up and gone. Be patient.

how do you know if you have ring worm or mrsa (staph) skin disease?

Fungus vs bacteria: Ring worm is a fungus - sampling scales of skin can help diagnosis. Mrsa is a bacterial infection and hence you would do a wound culture of the drainage.

Difficult to diagnos: Rashes are very difficult to diagnose without any photos. From the description it sounds like eczema, but it should really been seen by a physician. You can always make a consult appointment with a HealthTap doc to show pictures and for further evaluation.

Dermatophyte: 2 feet + 1 hand is typical of dermatophyte infection. Maceration of web skin between toes. Scaling of skin along entire soles of feet, often discolored toenails, scaly skin on 1 palm often with discolored nails on 1 hand. This is a fungus. Castellani solution is very useful. Azole creams are helpful [clotrimazole, miconazole, ketoconazole.] Terbinafine is very effective as  cream, excellent orally

what if the ring worm is all over the body but not the head or nails is that then saver and can ring worm be like acne bumps also ?

Not necessarily : Ringworm on the skin (opposed to nail or hair involvement) is generally easier to clear with topical or oral medications. Sometimes ringworm can develop pustules that look like acne buy more typically is in a ring pattern with scaled and elevated borders.
