Chest distress: For full evaluation and for peace of mind I recommend an evaluation by a cardiologist since you're also complaining of? palpitations. My impression is that your symptoms are not heart or lung related,however. Chest wall strain, tension or anxiety are common causes of these complaints.

Less likely: We would need more information-location of pain, its nature, association with activity, your age, risk factors for heart disease-Diabetes/HTN/Chol/smoking/family history etc in order to tease out your chest pain better. 
If its exertional substernal squeezing type of pain relieved with nitroglycerin or rest, it could be related to ischemic heart disease. In that case, you may want a stress test.

Chest squeezing: There are several possibilities and without seeing you and getting more details and an examination, a diagnosis isn't possible. There are still cardiovascular possibilities as well as pulmonary and GI possibilities. You might consider getting another opinion if your GP isn't inclined to investigate further.

You should consult your physician for workup.
