doc,yesterday i had blunt trauma to top of ilium  of right hip.lower back pain level of 4 out of10.x ray didnt show fracture.no other symp.plz advice

Plan : The first of all you need rest. Ice helpful within first 24 hours. Pain medication like Advil 400 or 600 mg every 6 hours. Absence of fracture is good sign. If bowel movements and urinations is fine you should be ok in2-3 weeks.

Hip pain: Hip pain can be caused by injury to the hip joint, sacroiliac joint or the low back. Often the pain arises without obvious cause. Crutches or a rolling walker can help reduce pain by limiting weight bearing. It is important to see a hip or back expert and obtain imaging studies to determine the location of the pain and to establish a treatment regimen.

Need more info: In young people hip pain can be due to poor alignment between the top of the thigh bone and the hip socket, causing impingment. It can also be a tear in the labrum. More serious conditions involve poor blood supply to the head of the thigh bone, called avascular necrosis, and then there is arthritis, damage to the cartilage, bursitis and tendonitis.

i am having pain in my right hip and the pain goes down my right leg to my ankle. my knee hurts more when i bend it. there has been no trauma.

Get it evaluated: Get it evaluated by an orthopedist or rheumatologist. If the pain runs down the back of the leg it is sciatica and not hip disease.

can modulus mismatch in hip replacement be caused by trauma?

Modulus mismatch: This is a biomechanical term that pits the stiffness of a biomaterial (hip implant) against the bone in/on which it rests. This is not likely to change after trauma. However, the implant could be dislodged/loosened by trauma and cause pain. Also, there could be a stress reaction or fracture that could be the cause. Finally, infection could be present and difficult to diagnose. See your hip doc.

what would cause pain on the side of my hip?  3 days ago, i strained my low back while bending down. no other trauma. what can i do to speed recovery?

Accepted Answer

Several things: Could be a pinched nerve, a strain of a muscle, ligament or tendon, or a joint injury.  If not better enough within a week, get it examined.  Nothing speeds recovery, just time.  Everything else is to relieve the pain while you heal.

i have left hip pain it comes and goes i get it once every 3 to 5 days and it lasts the full day and disappears the next its a dull ache and its quite painful when i have the pain i feel like doing nothing i've not had any injury or trauma to the hip?

: If this is going on for 10-14 days or more, and is painful enough to cause significant distress, please see your primary care doctor for an evaluation.  S/he will want to know if you have had any swelling, fever, weight loss, or limitation in your usual activities.   The more specific detail you can provide will help with diagnosis

i play varsity ice hockey and suffered a trauma to the hip and coccyx half a year ago. i am still in pain but have been playing. what would help?

Joint damage: Possible injuries include joint damage to the inside of the hip or even the ligaments that connect the hip to the coccyx and possibly even an occult  fracture of the coccyx. X-rays and possibly MRI could be used to help diagnose these.

recently changed diet. experiencing weird tender/heavy feeling near left hip between it & penis area. could that be from diet change? no trauma/injury

Groin tender: Discomfort in that area MAY indicate a hernia.  Please see your doc.  Catch it early for best results.  Peace and good health.

Might be a: pinched nerve in your BACK (L4-L5 verterbrae)
Try applying HEAT to your lower BACK at the hip level.
