been having this left-sided rib/left-side back pain for months now. it's on and off. i have been to the doc, did an xray(normal) and does not believe anything serious. blood tests are normal, etc. still have this issue. cancer? concern?

: Cancer as a cause of this pain would be unusual with normal labs and /plain Xray. Chances of a musculoskeletal or Kidney problem seem more possible. Ask your doc or see a Urologist/ ortho doc

Need Work Up: Severe left-sided pain around the rib cage could indicate a problem in any of the following areas: stomach and gas, cardiac, lung-related, musculoskeletal, intestinal, pancreas and less likely spleen. Given the constant and unremitting nature of your pain, I would suggest an urgent evaluation, possibly with ultrasound and routine bloodwork to start.

i had a bike accident on 14th may. a car hit from behind and me and wife fell down on left side. ribs started paining after about 4 days..

Consultation advised: If you are saying that you fell on your left side but didn't develop pain till 4 days later, that would generally indicate that you didn't sustain a rib fracture(which would be very painful on breathing the day of the fall). Sounds like a sprain: You will have to lay off whatever you are doing. if its exercise you may not have stretched enough prior to the activity. so just rest for a couple of weeks and return to activity in smaal increments to tolerance.

Postoperative pain: Can be a variety of reasons - from the less serious such as muscular through to the serious such as postoperative pulmonary embolus or postoperative urinary tract infection among others.  Needs urgent assessment.  Recommend urgent consultation with a doctor licensed in your area as may need examination and tests (urine, blood, possibly X-rays or scans) to sort this out.

Get a physical!: New onset sharp left sided abdominal pain can have many etiologies.  Without a physician history and examination, it is hard to guess the cause.  Musculoskeletal pains, constipation, kidney infection, enlarged spleen, diverticulitis among possibilities....
