This can be a STD.: Chlamydia can be a sexually transmitted bacteria, especially c. Trachomatis.  If untreated, it can result in epididymitis,  urethritis, and lymphogranuloma venereum.  Treatment is with Doxycycline or tetracycline.  Other kinds of chlamydiae are c. Psitticosis, from parrots, and c. Pneumoniae from other people infecting the lungs.  Get to your doctor and get treated fast, and tell partner if std.

Depends: If you've had a pap smear in the last 8 years, and you're sure they tested for chlamydia, and the test was negative, then it is a new issue. If you haven't been tested for chlamydia before, it's possible to carry it for that long without knowing.

Maybe: There can be treatment failures for the following reasons in which re-infection is possible. 1) One partner or the other failed to take the antibiotic at the same synchronized time. 2.) Either partner is resistant to the antibiotic.3) Failure to take the antibiotic at all. That is why both partners need to be re-tested after completing the antibiotic therapy.

Don't count on it: Chlamydia is an infectious disease that does not enter your blood and or ever stimulate the immune system to give immunity.It is more like strep throat than it would be the measles. Anytime you are exposed you may get it. Some men can carry it asymptotically for long periods.

No, needs Meds: Antibiotics are the only way to cure this infection, no alternative treatments are available. It is highly unlikely your girlfriend is allergic to all antibiotics. There are a number of different medications that have very good activity against Chlamydia including doxycycline (a tetracycline) and azithromycin (a macrolide). See Allergist if concerned. Practice safe sex, wear a condom.

Chlamydia is a: bacterial disease. Bacterial diseases are treated with antibiotics. The CDC guidelines for the treatment of Chlamydia  include antibiotics such as erythromycin, doxycline, azithromycin or ofloxacin. Erythromycin or amoxicillin are recommended during pregnancy. Usually see azithromycin or doxycline being used.

: I would suggest that you see another Gyn and  also make sure that the diagnosis of overactive bladder is correct. Overactive bladder and  Chlamydial vaginal infection are separate entities.

Oral ABx treat all: Chlamydia is the most common sexually transmitted infection in most countries, &amp; a common cause of infertility.  It is always treated with oral antibiotics which should treat all locations in the body, but many physicians recommend a test of cure about 3 weeks after treatment to be sure it is effective. There is really no safe sex in today’s world other than in a committed marriage relationship
