Scale measurement : If you want to know weight changes to the 10ths  of pounds then digital is going to be the best. I generally just have patients use the scales as guidelines for trending, because  it is the loss overtime, not at one specific moment that you want.

my child idolizes his older brother. sometimes this is great, but sometimes a pain! how can we dial this down?

Why interfere at all: It's natural for parents to anticipate the highs and lows their kids feel and want to buffer some of the down times.You seem happy with some of this adoration. But your own feelings may reflect disapointments, separation, losses that you were told to iignore as a child.The greatest way for a child to grow emotionally is to be validated for true feelings. Feelings are never good or bad they just are.

Your man-cave: Some people say that every grown male human needs to spend time in his "cave", alone to gather his thoughts rather than interacting. A savvy woman learns to leave the man she loves alone when he needs it. A savvy man learns to say, "i love you, please let me be for now", and when he's back to be with others, communicate effective and learn from others. Worry only if others worry greatly about you.

why do i sometimes forget things i shouldnt like someone's name of someone i see all the time or a phone number i dial all the time, don't make sense?

It may be normal: We all forget things that seem illogical.  Often our worry about these kinds of experiences causes more discomfort than warranted.  Unless these experiences are causing impairment - i would suggest accepting as part of the normal human experience.

None: There is no way to "cure" diabetes, only control it and prevent it's complications. With type 2 diabetes, however, significant weight loss or gastric bypass surgery and remove evidences of abnormal glucose, but the diabetes is still there, waiting to worsen later in life depending upon the circumstances.

When was last look?: Large variety of insulins. New guidelines. Relaxation of targets for some. Glp-1 agonists. First sodium glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor, Invokana (canaglifozin) , approved just recently.

Despite all the new, fundamentals remain....  Diet exercise, wt loss. Medications as necessary to achieve targets. Control BP and ldl.

Let me explain: Dawn phenomenon is a normal early-morning rise in glucose (blood sugar) that occurs before or shortly after 
waking. Everybody experiences this physiological phenomenon, but it can be troublesome for people with diabetes. 
Such people may need to adjust their treatment regimen to account for dawn phenomenon.

Mostly obesity: There are two kinds of diabetes. Type 1 is a genetic accident, or bad luck. It comes on in childhood usually and is a lack of insulin. Type 2 is more likely with a family history, but is strongly tied to obesity. It is caused by a resistance to Insulin initially, rather than a lack of it. I have seen diabetes type 2 go away with enough weight loss.

Yes: Disk herniation may cause pain, numbness and weakness limiting activity and work.  You may have to reduce the number of hours and stop working all together.  Fortunately disk herniations are treated well by endoscopic spine surgery.  This minimally invasive procedure is with a small video camera inserted through a pen sized tube.  This allows  direct visualization and removal of the disk.
