i had insional (sorry for my spelling) hernia removal with mesh a month ago and i am still feeling quite a bit of pain from the mesh. is this normal?

Post op: Some discomfort comes with healing but i would re check with surgeon to see if it is "normsl" pain of healing.

Can be very involved: In any location it is difficult ; less so in groin position but ventral hernia infected mesh can become a big procedure especially if bowel is adherent to it.

"trauma": Most types of hernia mesh are designed to scar into the adjacent tissue. Therefore, it can be quite traumatic to remove mesh, and even more difficult to (re)repair the hernia w/o mesh. Ironically, if the mesh is infected, it tends to come out quite easily.

Hard work: Mesh placed for a hernia repair may need to be removed , either for infection, intractable post op pain of an extended period, or for hernia recurrence.  In the latter, the graft should be left in place , and repaired with another adjacent or overlying graft. To remove a graft requires an open exploration, removal of tacks or sutures, then direct removal of the graft. Can be difficult.  Good luck.

Hernia: It depends on where the mesh was placed it is best to review the findings with your surgeons who performed the 2 procedures however it is unusual to dissect near the hiatus for a lap chole, it could be he case for an abdominal wall hernia.

See your surgeon: You may have symptoms from the recurrent or residual remaining hernia, or the pain you had previously was not resolved with mesh removal surgery. May need another surgery. May need anesthesia pain management injections if the hernia has not recurred. Needs a new physical exam with your surgeon.

Go back to: Your surgeon for follow up  care , and to make sure you did not have any  pocket of  infection inside the wound (located ) , possible antibiotic treatments along with wound care

If : If you are noticing a new bulge in the "stomach" you could have a recurrence again of your hernia.  The best test to find this out is a ct scan.

i had gastroschisis at birth, many intestinal blockage removals, and my hiatal hernia mesh causes severe pain 10 yrs later. vegan, uninsured. advice?

Gastroschisis: Complicated history. Are you sure you have mesh from a hiatal hernia repair? That's relatively rare. Not an umbilical hernia? Hard to say what the pain is from. Scar tissue vs obstruction vs mesh. If you are in KY i would see dr. Josh steiner.

Very likely: Unless it was done before 1990's or it was a small umbilical hernia then most likely you have a mesh implanted. If you had an inguinal hernia repaired then it is almost 100% mesh repair. Kids are almost never repaired with mesh.
