can you have psoriasis arthritis without having psoriasis? also it is possible to have no stiffness/swelling/redness and have psoriasis arthritis? with just nail changes present?

: I think a good question is do you have psoriasis?  Psoriasis can have arthritis , just nail changes, or just skin changes. It is uncommon to have arthritis without ever having stiffness,. Boney swelling may not be seen on a person but an xray , sometimes the swelling maybe seen in the fingers, but not early on.

i have sciatic pain (10 yrs) right side, nerve conduction testing normal. i live with it. now its carpal tunnel on right, nerve testing normal again. swelling in cubital area and numb middle finger. also hammer toes on right. could this be arthritis?

: Not feasible to consider arthritis in absence of exam, imaging, and blood testing. i went to a kickboxing class tonight (includes boxing with heavy bags). everything went great! 3 hours later noticed swelling in my thumb and light pain - now my wrist and forearm are starting to swell. how can i tell if it's arthritis or sprain?

Sounds like a sprain: The acute onset and the acute trauma to the hand points to sprain from trauma. You must stop this blunt force. Not good

Continue followup: As you have mentioned, it sounds like for some reason you are retaining fluid.  There are multiple potential causes including cardiac, renal causes.  Need to find underlying cause and correct diagnosis before appropriate treatment begun. Numbness in palm possibly carpal tunnel syndrome, a condition that can be aggravated by fluid retention.  Don’t hesitate to see specialist if not making progress.

Not usually: The distal joints in the fingers are the most common joints to get arthritis. The next most common is the base of the thumb. They are treated depending on the severity of symptoms but most patients do well with splinting or medications and possibly hand therapy.

Yes but: Yes but just reducing the inflammation and swelling is considered temporary treatment for many diseases causing inflammatory arthritis and long term use has many mild to serious side effects. A Rheumatologist should follow and diagnose a person with inflammatory arthritis taking prednisone.

Several things: You can ice the area or use a cool pack.  You can elevate th hand above the level of the heart.  You can try an antihistamine if you beleive this is an allergice type reaction with itching.  However, an insect bite that causes the entire fist to swell may be signs of infeciton.  Is there reddness, streaking, fever, heat at the site, or other symptoms.  You may need to be seen quickly by a doctor.

Depends on cause: You need to know why your hands are swelling first.  Get worked up by your doctor.

If there is no medical causes, a mild diuretic and elevation with compression can help.
