During : During CPR it is not unusual to increase pressure at particular areas of the body, and small blood vessels on the surface of the skin, or scalp, can easily burst, creating noticeable spots on the skin surface.  This also applies to the area around his eyes.  So to answer the question, he did not likely bleed internally in this scenario, but rather had some small veins burst on the surface of his face and around his eye that led to what you saw.

If your heart failur: E is caused by alcohol, no. Even if not, still probably a bad idea!

Red eye: It sounds like she has a sub conjunctival hemorrhage, a bright red bruise of the whites of the eye. Generally asymptomatic and self limited and usually associated with blood thinners such as warfarin. Treatment usually not necessary, but comforting artificial tears are okay.

Poss unrelated CHF: This could be just a garder variety headach i.e. Related to vision change, tooth problem, or general exhaustion / lack of sleep. Also, too good of a control of blood sugar may cause headach (hypoglycemic headach). Make sure you have no low sugar and or any of the above. Otc Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen (not on empty stomach) should help. Otherwise, may need be seen by a doctor for more detailed eval.

i have shortness of breath when i lay flat and use a pillow to help prop my head up.  i am 21 and 300 pounds and was wondering if i am likely to have congestive heart failure or if it is likely the weight which i am starting a diet for?

Contributing: Obesity-hypoventilation is of concern as in time invariably strains the heart. You should start a weight loss program under the supervision of your doc. Other acute conditions cannot be ruled out with limited history available.

It can: Low voltage in an EKG suggest cardiomyopathy. Which goes by the hand with Heart Failure.
- In addition Electrical Alternans in the EKG is also suggestive of heart failure

It can give clues: Heart failure is a complicated diagnosis to make and is usually based on history and physical exam findings.  An ekg may give clues that point towards a diagnosis of heart failure but can not fully diagnose it.  You may be  confusing the term heart failure with heart disease.  Ask you doctor about further specifics.

None, really: Coughing is related to having fluid in the lungs. It is not going to respond to a cough suppressant or expectorant. It responds to diuretics, which help to remove the fluid from the lungs.

CHF: Congestive heart failure patients usually have structural abnormalities of the heart muscle and can have rhythm abnormalities so yes. Dental care both in the office and at home is important. A the dentist some office procedures and drugs could be problematic. Poor dental hygiene at home could result in infections which could cause valve problems. So dental care is important.

my husband has copd and congestive heart failure. he is 86 and very weak. docs said this is bad. what is there to help him?

Consultants: He should be evaluated by both a cadiologist and a pulmonolgist, preferably in a hospital setting.
