If weakness = bad: Carpal tunnel syndrome can display a number of different symptoms including the ones you have described. It is "bad" in a prognostic sense if the symptoms include weakness of the muscles to the fingers and thumb of the affected hand. The more and longer you have weakness of the hand the less likely surgery is able to relieve the weakness. Pain is pain if frequent and worsening you do the math ;).

Complex problem: Spinal stenosis/cerv'l disc degen. freq.cause neck pain, but not always.Same w/hand numbness:could be carpal tunnel or from neck, both or neither.PT is often too generic to help.Shoulder surg could play a part in causing hand/arm nerve problems.Strongly rec. osteopathic eval as specific diagnosis via hands-on exam &amp; gentle manip. may help.Consider neuroprolotherapy for CTS or brachial neuropathies

i was diagnosed with carpal tunnel syndrome (through history and bending wrists). my main symptom is when typing at my computer for 40+ minutes , my palms turn red and my hands feel very hot, burning even (rather than tingling). is this really cts?

: CTS is diagnosed best by EMG . Consider erythromelalgia. Break  every 20 minutes for 1 -2 minutes,   ergonomically position keyboard  (  as a pianist on piano- wrists NOT upward ) - may  need a separate keyboard if on laptop. F/U/w/ rheumatology-ask re: splints

my left forearm and hand is beat red and very hot.this has been occurring for 3 months now. there is some slight swelling.there's no pain, i haven't injured it.i've r/o blood clot, cellulitis and carpal tunnel.my left ear is always hot too.   help me?

Probably no STD: Syphilis can cause a skin rash that involves the palms and soles, but unlikely to cause burning; and syphilis is rare in women in your part of the country. Probably this is something other than syphilis or any other STD. But STDs wouldn't be on your mind if you weren't at risk, so get tested. Play it safe and see a doctor for diagnosis and possible treatment. Good luck!

Could be: The pinky finger, not so much, but the palm, especially the middle of the palm, yes.  In fact, different sensations could occur.  There could be an aching or tightness, or a feeling of pins and needles or an electrical feeling there.

What does it feel like?

It may be that it improves over time.  The nerves will continue to heal now that they are not being compressed.

Yes: It's blood under the skin. It might take a while to go away.

Foreign body: The simple answer is yes. Steel wool can easily splinter and get a piece into your skin. If ghat happens you can experience symptoms like you describe. If just sore just watch, if redness and more soreness develops you may need an antibiotic at ghat time. Happy cleaning!

Possibly: Can clarify via both MRI of neck and EMG study of arms.  Can easily be sorted out in this fashion.

Numbness at night: The most common initial symptom of carpal tunnel is numbness and tingling in the thumb and first two fingers that is worse at night, often awakening you from sleep.  Especially if your symptoms have progressed to the point where the hand is weak, a neurologist can help determine if the cause is carpal tunnel or some other nerve disorder.
