Check your immunity: Oral thrush is a fungal infection of the oral membranes, and usually occurs in people whose immune status are reduced.  This can occur in people on antibiotics, in diabetics or immunosuppressed due to other illnesses or cancer.  Certain other medications can increase the risk as well.  This is typically not contagious.  Treatments range from 7 - 10 days.  Have your doctor check your immune system.

Antibiotics: Anything that kills the normal bacteria in the mouth can let thrush grow. Usually this is caused by antibiotics, but if her immune system is compromised, that can also cause thrush.

Accepted Answer

Predisposition: You may have underlying problems, including antibiotics, steroids, diabetes, etc.  If not, then treat each episode with medication through your partner's menstrual cycle, having you using an antiifungal cream on the penis twice a day during this treatment.  Might also try eating unpasteurized yogurt at least once a day to try and alter the number of yeast in GI tract.

Immune deficiency: Immune deficiency and autoimmune diseases are not the same. Poor nutrition, congenital deficiencies, diabetes, and viruses can cause lack of immunity.

Yeast infection: You don't say where your yeast infection (thrush) is. If  vaginal, you may need to be checked for conditions that can increase risk, especially diabetes. Also, about 5% of vaginal yeast infections are caused by yeasts resistant to the usual treatments, such as the "azole" drugs. If your doctor is unfamiliar with all this, consider your local NHS GUM clinic for expert care.

i have an itchy labia. it's really itchy and doesn't respond to thrush cream, there is also no abnormal discharge. it keeps reoccurring.

Need more info: Are you using a prescription "thrush cream" or an over the counter cream? Are you diabetic? If you are sexually active? If so does your partner employ good genital hygiene? In any event it would be a good idea to visit your family physician or OB/GYN to fix this problem.

Immune deficiency: Whereas lupus , rheumatoid disease, are typically related to "over active" immune system, susceptibility to multiple infectios can be a sign of immune deficiency.  An immunologist can test and interpret results to determine if you have a deficiency.

Possibly: Chronic longstanding antibiotics  can have these side effects. One can get an intestinal infection - C-diff,   - yeast infections and antibiotic resistance. Please see your doctor .

Culture urine: Keflex isn't the best antibiotic for a UTI.  Its possible that the bacteria causing the infection is resistant to Keflex.    A urine culture will tell you what the organism is and what antibiotics will treat it.  Taking a Bactrim (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) or Macrobid just after each episode of intercourse will stop frequent UTIs in most women.   Thrush is hard to get rid of.  It may take several weeks of treatment...

i'm in 2nd trimester of pregnancy. i've had reccuring yeast infections (4times). i used cefime tablets with miconazole and it was gone for about a month but it's back again. kindly help, the itch and the thrush is unbearable.

Talk to your OB: Talk to your OB Dr about treatment during pregnancy with an oral antifungal. A single dose of fluconazole 150 mg to treat vaginal yeast infection during pregnancy does not appear to be associated with the birth defects or any other problems with the fetus. Using the oral antifungal along with a topical antifungal is 90% effective in curing recurrent yeast infections.
