Articulation (speech) can be temporarily impacted by anything that damages oral musculature, but developmental articulation disorder is brain-based & often seen with fine-motor delays. Expressive language disorder confers a very high risk of later dyslexia & disorder of written expression, so early intervention is vital, as is monitoring his phonological awareness.

Assessment of communication,  social reciprocity, self-help/adaptive & motor skills drives early intervention therapies for tots with  developmental receptive &/or expressive language +/- articulation disorders.

I've never seen it: I've dealt with the issue for three decades & never seen it as a primary cause. If the kid has a sleep disorder related to sleep apnea/tonsil size i could see it causing chronic health problems, but not changing the emergence of speech & language skills  in a kid that was ready.

Speech: No. Speech is usually a developmental issue. Make sure his hearing is fine and get him to a speech therapist for a full evaluation.

Yes/grommets: For any given ear infection they retain fluid/pus in their middle ear which causes a 40% +/- drop in their hearing for as much as 6 wks. Chronic recurrent otitis is linked to speech/language delays. Ventilation tubes (grommets) placed after the middle ear mucus is removed can improve hearing immediately &amp; reduce infection frequency.
