Sick.: Sounds like you are sick and need care now.  ? pneumonia ? Breathing should not be difficult in a minor illness or cold.  You should see the emergency department now or at least your doc first thing in the am.

URI/bronchitis: The rattling is likely mucous or fluid breaking up as you breath or cough (rhonchi). Drink fluid and may use mucolytic to make expectoration easier and coughing looser to prevent chest pain from the coughing due to effort. Treat the upper respiratory with antihistamine or nasal spray to decrease the symptoms. Fluids utmost. If with significant fever, then see your md as you may need antibiotics.

Chest xray: Hi! it sounds like your physician has tried a variety of treatment options, and since you now have rattling in your chest it is time for an x-ray.  There may be a different cause for your cough that may not be infectious, but the obligation at this time is to make sure your lungs look normal on x-ray.

i have no nasal congestion and a dry cough but i can feel something rattling around in my chest when i cough i have no other symptoms either is this allergies or a cold?

Could be either: They symptoms are likely related to an upper respiratory infection; however depending on the time sequence and persistence of symptoms, allergies could be playing a role if there is no improvement in the near future.

Should the symptoms persist or should they worsen, i recommend seeing your primary doctor and possibly an allergist.

sometimes when i blow my nose there is a pain in my right chest. why?

Positive pressure: There is no direct nerve connection between the nose and chest.  However, when you blow your nose, you create positive pressure in the chest by increasing outflow resistance. To create this pressure your muscles between the ribs squeeze. Your pain is probably musculoskeletal.

Having said that, if you have having chest pain, it's always good to see a doctor to rule out serious problems.

Use sparingly: and it might help.  Cool humidified air will also help and if he is coughing a warm drink with honey will relieve the cough.  For severe nasal congestion it is ok to use a small amount of afrin nasal spray for one or two nights only to unblock the nose.  Be sure to not use it more than that as it is not approved for use in children.

ok so what can i give him to get better? his nose is blocked and the flem is going to his chest and now he is coughing aswell.

Can give him a: One can help by giving him a ride to a doctor. If he is an infant or child, a pediatrician or family medicine doctor can help. If he is an adult, an internal medicine or family medicine doctor can help. If no personal doctor is available, an Urgent Care clinic can help. If less than 6 months old, many Urgent Care clinics don't have experience with young babies, so the ER would be an alternative.

?HTN: Multiple things can cause above symptoms. Htn is main one.  Blood disorders ( eg: polycythemia). Get checked out.

No: Even though allergies can be inherited it is not always genetic.
