Sure: Some degree of radiation fibrosis is to be expected. Different people get less or more. It's usually little or no trouble. People actually have lungs removed for lung cancer, and do okay afterwards. I hope she got a good result from her cancer treatment, and that if she smokes now, she will stop. Best wishes.

today i'm having more productive cough due to the pulmonary fibrosis which was caused by the lung radiation. can you help me in getting this  under control without a hospital stay?

chest xray showed pulmonary fibrosis and a nodule on the lower lobe. can i do mri instead of ct scan. trying to avoid radiation ?

Imaging: A high resolution fast chest CT used for screening would be a better choice in this case. In addition, a thorough review of your clinical risk factors may be completed by your pulmonologist online and also by a virtual appointment with Healthtap.
Avoid smoking, smoke and if the nodule is small and has non concerning characteristics on CT, it may be followed without removal.

is it possible for a child to have cystic fibrosis without ever having pneumonia or bronchitis?

Yes: CF is a genetic disorder that is present at birth.  Young infants often present with poor weight gain and digestive problems before there is the presence of any lung disease.  All 50 states in the US now screen newborn infants for cystic fibrosis.

i had pneumonia twice and bronchitis twice in the last year. i also have had digestion problems entire life. should i get tested for cystic fibrosis?

Rare occurance: The chances of you having CF are rare, but if you are concerned talk to your doctor about getting tested.

can pulmonary fibrosis result from viral pneumonia?

Accepted Answer

No: Generally speaking pulmonary fibrosis is not the result of viral pneumonia.  Sometimes viral pneumonia can cause some scarring of the lungs that may resemble some forms of pulmonary fibrosis.  There is a form of pulmonary fibrosis called cryptogenic fibrosing alveolitis that sometimes may be the result of lung infections including viral pneumonia.

ct thorax says; very mild scarring/fibrosis in the apices.i've never had bronchitis or pneumonia. what could be the cause & should i worry?

Not a concern: This is commonly seen on ct as a mild aging change of the lungs.

i was diagnosed with atlectasis a few months ago after scarring on lungs from ct.i got pneumonia in november. still have shortness of breath after 7 months. the ic, tlc and fvs percentage was lower in the second pft. could it be pulmonary fibrosis?

: Assuming you have never smoked could be. Review occupations associated with pulm fibrosis.

i have restricted breathing pattern in pft with low mip value (34) and mep=81. my bmi is 30. ct shows . diffuse bronchial wall thickening without pneumonia or pulmonary fibrosis. 2. scattered calcified granulomata. i have positive ana. next work up?

: You should see a rheumatologist for a full work up to see if there is any rheumatologic disorder that explains all these findings. The positive ANA along with the other findings could mean you have an autoimmune disorder and rheumatologist is the best one to diagnose this. Good luck!

hello i have scars on both lungs due to pe when i had both covid and pneumonia last year. i have chance of chest infections/virus. i caught covid again but ok. but lungs inflamed. constant cough, mucus and pain. will i get pulmonary fibrosis? thanks?

: Pulmonary fibrosis itself is a restrictive lung disease which generally occurs secondary to inhaling dusts such as coal, cotton and silica as well as other irritants. You may get some intermediate "fibrosis"; or have some scarring as a result of a healing process but this isn't the same as pulmonary fibrosis. You should followup with your lung doctor for testing of airway disease if concerned.
