Radius fracture: Depends on the location of the fracture on the radius. Distal radius, radial shaft and radial head fractures are all treated differently. It also depends on how displaced the fracture is. Best thing to do is to be evaluated by your local Orthopaedic surgeon to receive proper treatment.

8 weeks: The healing time depends on the location and severity of the fracture. For non-displaced fractures of the radius near the wrist, it will often take 6-8 weeks for fractures to heal and then an additional 4 weeks for the bones to re-model and attain their maximal strength. Discuss your fracture with a hand surgeon to characterize the healing time.

i have gone through accident and got radial fracture 6 weeks ago.so i wanna ask when i can hit the gym. will able to lift weights again in my life ?

: If the radius is healed well after the cast you should start exercise to strengthen the involved wrist and forearm. Please check with your orthopedist for instructions. After that you can resume gym exercise but at a slow pace then gradually moving up to normal pace.

my bone growth has been slow for my right radial fracture, any way to speed up the process?

Bone stimulator: Bone growth stimulators can enhance bone healing. However sometimes the problem may not be slowness of healing but abnormal healing.When a fracture heals abnormally it can cause mal-union or non-union of the fracture site. This then requires surgical intervention. Bone growth stimulator for mal-union will be of no benefit.

radial fracture in left forearm. my cast redone a second time as it became too loose. its loose again but doc won't fix it. how will my arm heal?

Immobilization: will help the ends of the broken boned heal. The cast does not have to be skin tight.

eight weeks ago i had a radial fracture of the fibula. i am now experiencing a dull constant pain under the heel of my foot. what could be the cause?

Have it evaluated.: Possible cause of your pain may include plantar fasciitis, sprain, bursitis, fracture, contusion, neuritis, but of course there are a multitude of other possibilities.  Get the feet inspected by a professional to determine the cause of the problem, as treatment varies depending on the diagnosis.

i got a distal radial fracture ~6 weeks ago. dr took my cast off last week. is it normal for thumb to still hurt & wrist to still be visibly swollen?

Wrist fracture: Yes this is totally normal and will go away with time once the swelling goes away completely and your Range of Motion improves. Hope this helps.

what should be done about a non healed distal radial fracture? i broke my wrist in nov and had an external fixator.  it was removed jan 4.  recent x-ray report says non healed distal radial fracture and avulsed ulnar styloid.  what should my course of act

Accepted Answer

A : A lot of this is based on age.  With increasing age, bones heal a bit slower.  However, the distal radius is not an area where we usually see problems with healing.  It's been about 3 months, which is a bit slow for this area.  There are a few things that slow it down:

smoking! (or any nicotine)--this is the single biggest factor in poor bone healing.  If you use any form of nicotine, stop now!

non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (aspirin, advil, aleve, (naproxen) etc.)--these are second to nicotine in slowing bone healing.  Avoid these as much as possible.  If you take Aspirin for a heart condition, though, you should continue it.

Motion--if the fracture does not have enough holding it in place, the healing tissue will be continually disrupted and you'll get soft healing, rather than bone.  A cast or other means of immobilization can be helpful.

Poor circulation--if there is a lot of soft tissue injury around the bone, the bone may not get a good blood supply to promote healing.  There are electrical bone stimulators that help improve the "biology" of the area.

Infection--with an external fixator (or any surgery), there is an increased chance of introducing bacteria to the area of the fracture.  Antibiotics may suppress the infection until the bone heals or it may require additional surgery.

In the longer term, if the bone fails to heal, internal stabilization and bone grafting may be a possibility, but this area usually heals.

Stable: That means that there is a fracture of the radius, that there is some signs of early healing (mild sclerosis), and that the alignment is stable when compared to the previous film.  Don't hesitate to discuss with your doctor.

hello. i'm a front line police  officer and have fractured both elbows. radial hairline fractures. how long should i have off work?

Accepted Answer

Hairline fractures: Typically heal over 6-8 weeks and the pain improves in 4 weeks or so. It may take you up to 6 weeks to be able to do the things you do on the front line. I usually let pain be your guide but overall I would suggest at least a month of light duty. God bless you and thank you for your service.
