Congratulations!: Within a year, your risk of lung, throat, and mouth cancer will begin to decrease drastically. After 8 years: your risk of oral, throat and lung cancer will have returned to that of a non-smoker. You know that stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do to improve your health and quality of life.

having wisdom tooth pulled tomorrow, doctor said i have to quit smoking (cold turkey).  how best to alleviate withdrawals.  i'm rx'd klonopin (clonazepam) for anxiety already.

Nicotine patch: It is going to be really hard to go cold turkey if you have underlying anxiety issues. It would be safe and probably easier for you to get a nicotine patch system that will help you step down your nicotine addiciton over the next days-weeks. There are a number of patches available for this very purpose, and are far better than a dry socket or dental abcess after wisdom tooth extraction!

Probably OK: Nice job stopping smoking! this can be hard for people to do. It's not clear what 'fleshy mouth' means without seeing you, but if it is not associated with facial swelling, trouble swallowing or breathing, or having any kind of allergy symptoms, it's likely that everything is fine. Now that you're getting healthier - make sure you get enough sleep, eat right and get enough exercise and water.

Mucous cells: Smoking causes the lining of the lungs to produce more mucous secreting cells.  It takes   
six to 12 months for those cells to secrete less.  I suspect that is what is going on.   Perhaps some post nasal drip?  Also consider taking a nicotine supplement and see if it goes away.  You may be experiencing a prolonged withdrawal.   Of course all these ideas can only be educated guesses.
