Most likely okay.: A tiny bit of pink or red after the umbilical cord falls off is fine.  Keep the area clean and dry.  Don't bathe the baby yet (most newborns aren't rolling in the mud), and if the oozing continues more than a day or so, let your doctor know.

Not unusual: It is not unusual for there to be some minor spotting/oozing from the cord area even after the stump has come off. Thee were 3 huge blood vessels there and sometimes there is a bit of spotting. The second possibility is something called an umbilical granuloma, where a fragment of cord is still present and actively bleeds down within the umbilicus. Have pediatrician check this at next visit.

Umbilical cord: Just gentle cleaning with soap and warm water compresses should be OK.  There may be small amounts of bleeding associated with friction, so clean with diaper changes. It should clear up in a day or two. If not, see your pediatric care provider.

Pretty common: Sometimes the tear ducts are clogged a little &amp; minor eye weeping appears. It usually resolves in time. The cord stump is somewhat like a simple sore that can reopen and bleed a little until it finally heals. We often see this soon after the main stump separates. Just keep it clean and dry as you would any scratch and it should heal fine.

Confusing question: I have never had an infant show me convincing evidence of  umbilical cord pain.(and they can not tell me) in fact, there are no nerve endings in an umbilical cord so it cannot send pain messages. Perhaps you are thinking about another body part.
