Varies: There are multiple potential causes, I would not hesitate to be seen.  The liver, gall bladder, right lower lung, and the lining of the lung, the ribs and the intercostal muscles are all in that area and can potentially cause pain. A detailed history, exam, and appropriate studies can usually determine the cause.

i feel a pulsating pain at my left side below my rib cage. its not very painful but irritating and comes at 30 seconds to 1 minute intervals.

Hmmmm: Not sure what this could be.  The abdominal aorta can sometimes be felt in the abdomen, but is not normally painful.  You should get an exam and show the doctor where the pain is, so they can examine you and possibly get an x-ray to assure there is nothing there more serious.  Good luck.

Diaphragm: As described, the problem is likely localized repetitive spasms of a portion of your diaphragm. This is the same phenomenon underlying hiccups, but affecting a smaller portion of this interesting muscle, near the ribs.

Mild muscle spasm?: Minor muscle spasm/twitching can cause that "pulsating tingle" you described. The muscles attaching to the edges of your ribcage can get irritated/strained from rapid trunk-twisting movements as during swinging a baseball bat or a tennis racquet etc..If massing the area relieves your symptoms, it is likely to be so. Good range of motion/stretching will help. If persistent, consult doc. Good luck.

Suggest exam: Twitching and spasm sound like a neuromuscular issue but the pulsating feeling could be a vessel of some sort.  Even if not painful, would recommend you have this examined by your pcp who may suggest x-ray or ultrasound to evaluated further or send you on to a specialist.

Transmission: Normally one can perceive the pulse transmitted from the great vessels or heart in areas of the abdomen, chest or neck. Depends on body habitus. If impressive, have your doctor take a look at it. Vascular abnormalities can also present as pulsatile masses. A thorough exam aided by ct scans, mris, or ultrasounds can help determining the cause.

Twitch: This appears to be an irritable abdominal muscle which twitches involuntarily but doesn't cause painful cramps or spasms. It isn't a pulsating blood vessel. It is similar to twitching of an eyelid. Muscle fatigue can bring it on. Unless you develop widespread muscle twitching seen in calcium or magnesium deficiencies, I doubt you have anything to worry about. See your MD if you still have concerns
