Training experience: Psychiatrists are physicians (md's or do's), and have graduated from 4 years' medical school and at least 4 years' residency in psychiatric medicine.  This includes general medicine rotations.  Many do fellowships as well. Psychologists are phd's or psyd's, and  focus primarily on research or clinical work.  Length of time for psychology doctorate varies with interests -- can be 4-7 years.

Therapy work?: The data is very strong that therapy helps people.  Equally, psychiatric medication also helps people. The data is also clear for many significant emotional problems when medications and therapy are combined the effect is even more powerful.

Seek help: Life often sends challenges at us that we don't have the skill set to handle on our own. You wouldn't try to fix your bad appendix alone &amp; this is similar. You need to seek out a life coach/therapist to learn how to handle stress. Your local GP should know somebody.

Some overlap: There are several conditions that are both neuro and psych, but in general psychiatric covers mood, behavior, cognitive function, attention. Neuro incolves motor and/or sensory abnormalities, several types of pain issues, seizures, headahes and several types of tumors, as well as some infections and neuro degnerative conditions.

Good question: Presumably you were given psychiatric medication for a condition that required treatment. Stopping the medication will expose the underlying condition, exacerbated by the particular withdrawal effects of the medication. The withdrawal effects will eventually go away, but you're still left with the condition that first prompted you to seek treatment.  Talk to your doctor.

Gather that you have been correctly diagnosed, and being treated with a high efficacy drug which will control your disorder, you are taking adequate vitamin D, and your dietary and exercise programs are in place.
