Depends on who is : Doing the rolling & who is being rolled. Rolling is like a massage so it may cause muscle relaxation & depending on how hard the person is doing the rolling is working, theoretically it could build that person's muscles.

Encourage: The rolling process encourages blood flow / lymphatic drainage and helps reduce formation of muscle spasm (as result of lactic acidosis and contributing to more of it). So can help.

Hip: Try a session with a massage therapist to loosen the joints. If symptoms continue get a baseline x-ray and medical evaluation.

Patellar tendonitis: Should be ok, assuming you have pain free full range of motion. Progress slowly as tolerated & check with orthopedic surgeon.

No : I don't think the  foam roller is going to help much . Other ways to deal with muscle sourness is to drink  plenty of water to get rid of the Lactic acid generated byy the muscles . Taking an Anti inflammatory medication occasionally may help . Massage therapy . Best thing is to exercise to tolerance . You should not exercise till you cause yourself pain . There : There are many causes of back pain.  You probably pulled a muscle or aggravated/injured disk or joint in the back.   Most cases of back pain improve over one month.  You may benefit from few days of rest, anti-inflammatories (please contact primary care for assessment and prescription) follow by physical therapy.  If you do not improve you should see spine specialist to further investigate and treat your back pain.  Good luck!

Either: You can use either.  A tennis ball will have a more focused point vs foam roller which is wider.  Try each and see which one relieves your symptoms better.

Difficult problem : The IT ban can be tricky at times to treat. Strengthening it and stretching it is very important.  stretching it is not easy. I recommend where you Stand sideways again something to support you and lean into it the stretching the side of your leg and hip. Strengthening it and tells doing abductor strengthening exercises swinging the leg outward. I’ve had good success with this program
