Prozac withdrawal: Prozac has a very long half-life, about 16 days, which means the blood level drops gradually over several weeks. Therefore, in about a month's time, symptoms may re-appear for which you took this med initially, eg, irritability, anxiety, depression. Stopping Prozac should always be tapered slowly under doctor supervision for this reason. Check with prescribing doctor to review how you're feeling.

I wonder why you were prescribed prozac, (fluoxetine) and whether this condition has stabilized enough to be tapering the medicine? if you shouldnt just stop prozac suddenly because of serious withdrawal effects, how does only using the medicine during the luteal phase work, taking it for half the month then stopping suddenly. how does that not cause withdrawal symptoms ?

Dose &amp; length of TX:  Now a days, some doctors are prescribing daily SSRI for this and others are only prescribing for luteal phase only . By taking it for short periods and at low doses, the chances of getting a discontinuation syndrome remain quite low.  I personally, prescribe long -term meds.

NO: You dont stop Paxil (paroxetine) or any medication in this group ( ssri) at once. You should have gone off it gradually. Ifd you dont need it dont start any medication.  Your symptoms will go away gradually.

5 weeks ago i did a direct switch from 20 mg prozac to 50 mg zoloft. ive been experiencing anxiety and other withdrawal symptoms suddenly the past few days. could it be from the prozac? i was on prozac for 4 weeks?

: The dose of Zoloft that you are on does not correspond to the Prozac 20mg. The dose should be worked up to 100mg. You should begin to feel better over time.

Multiple reason: Its always advisable to tamper medication with doctors' help. Please seek psychotherapy/ psychological help from professional if possible if you don't want to take any medication.
