Food: No need to take protein powder, unless there is some diagnosed intestinal ailment or need for supplementation that can not be met be eating real food.  Protein sources include meat, fish, poultry, dairy (milk, yogurt, cheese, kefir),  bean products including tofu, tempeh, eggs, nuts, seeds;  grains generally leeser source of high quality protein. Quinoa exceptional (a seed that cooks like a grain).

No: Trace leucocytes & trace protein are within normal limits & may be simple contaminants such as from vaginal epithelial cells. Presumably nitrite was negative which would have indicated baceria in your urine. Urine culture from a mid stream specimen, separating labia to avoid contamination, after cleansing with soap towlettes, would be more definitative for uti. That way you and your dr. Would know.

: Protein powder is fairly harmless when used in moderation. But you do not need supplements if you eat a normal healthy diet which contains a balance of carbohydrates, good fats and proteins in the form of Eggs, Meat and plant nuts. Low fat Dairy and yogurt is also a good source of proteins.

Not intrinsically-: -bad. We all need 50gms of protein daily with heavy weight training, a boost may be needed for that day. Taken in excess or when not needed, can be toxic 2 the kidneys. Also you can get your protein from diet, not supplements.

Soy protein: Despite all the internet claims, is just protein which will be broken down in your GI system and metabolized for calories -- just like anything else you eat or drink. If you eat more calories than you burn off, you will gain weight, but you con't tell your body where to deposit the fat -- so the curves may not end up where you want them to be.

Smart move: If you do not need to restrict because of kidney disease, it's safe and a good move. Use discernment is evaluating vegetarian claims that their diet provides adequate protein -- it's the moral high ground but you'll need to supplement.

Need more info: The 30 grams of protein should be no problem if you have normal kidney and liver function.  In order to know if the shake has side effects it would be necessary to know what are the ingredients.  Some shakes add caffeine or other stimulants which can cause anxiety, insomnia, tremor and a rapid or irregular heart beat

im 16 years old and 6 1 and weight 190 pds. so im thinking about starting to take whey protein powder every other morning. is that good or bad 4 u?

Not bad: I recommend jay robb's protein it is pure natural whey protein powder sweetened with natural stevia and organic.   Please avoid the competitors that put artificial sweeteners and other junk in their products.  I use this as a meal replacement one to two times every day and been doing so for about 5 years now.  So perfetly safe.  I put on some pretty good muscle too.

It is fine: It is safe to give a teen protein powder. The question is whether it is necessary. The typical western diet provides more than enough protein to support the muscle building efforts of a teenager. The extra protein from the powder is just extra. It is extra calories, calories that are expensive & devoid of any other nutritional content. My suggestion is stick to whole foods.
