They would also determine the length of time you would need to take the medication.  (anywhere from a couple of weeks to several months.)  they may need to change the medication or add to the medications, depending on your response to treatment.

Rare: Extremely rare for an 18 yo to have chronic prostatitis.  Was it dx'd by prostatic massage or semenanalyses? Courses of antibiotics for chronic prostatitis should be rx'd for no less than 4 weeks, and possibly up to 3 months.  If not caused by an infection, you may have prostatodynia.  What are your symptoms? Consider zn/nsaids/ sitz baths.  See a urologist.

Coli are the same with respect to their response to the same antibiotics. If your UTI hasn't responded to 8 weeks treatment, it could be that the e. Coli is resistant to the antibiotics tried or that a prostate abscess is present. A urologist could help you.

Highly variable: Depends upon the inciting factors, the organism and the treatment.  At age 29 you should clear up fairly promptly and not recur without a good reason.  If you do, see a urologist.

Very doubtful: It is unlikely that sexual abstinence or celibacy (they aren't the same) causes prostatitis. Several aspects of that theory make no sense at all. Also, defining prostatitis isn't easy -- for example, look up "chronic pelvic pain syndrome" and compare with prostatitis. And of course if you're going serious research on this, you need to use proper scientific resources, not just forums like this!
