Proparacaine: Proparacaine eye drops are used during an eye exam to help a physician determine a number of things. These include measuring the pressure of the eyeball and looking for a scratch on the cornea.
Proparacaine is almost never used to treat eye pain since it usually interferes with the ability of the cornea to heal. One exception is after some types of corneal surgery, and only then by prescription.

Yes: There is no cross-hypersensitivity reaction between these two classes of antibiotics.  Always remember, however, that if you have a propensity to develop allergies to one drug you may also do this with others. Be careful.

Do not use it.: This class of medications is not approved for pediatric patients if safer antibiotics are available. A single oral dose of the fluoroqunalones may disable. Prescribing an ophthalmic preparation for otic (ear) purposes is inappropriate. The best treatment for swimmers ear is acidifying the ear canal to kill off the yeast and restore normal flora, like Domeboro solution, which is OTC.

If it was prescribed: For him by his pediatrician or pediatric ophthalmologist, yes. If it was prescribed for someone else, no, because of risk of cross-contamination.

Yes: Yes, it can. Sometimes a stye turns into a chalazion, which is a nontender accumulation of oil in the lid. Sometimes a chalazion will gradually resolve, and sometimes they need to have a surgical drainage to resolve.

Should be: Again, should be safe unless you have an allergy. This type of injury should be seen by an eye MD. The antibiotic drops treat only bacteria that are susceptible to them, so it certainly is not a guarantee. There are bacteria resistant to each antibiotic. Also, fungal infections are not treated with antibiotics; they have their own special medicines.
