i tested positive for proteus ox-19 in mexico after taking antibiotics a month ago. says high amount present, have minimal symptoms (bloating) the doctor here rxed me probiotics + cipro if necessary. can probiotics + prebiotic diet kill the bacteria?

: Probiotics are just colony forming units (seeds) of normal gut germs that are known to be healthy &amp; not cause problems. Their presence in your gut may crowd out some "bad" germs but not kill them. Diet has little to do with what germs do in since they can feed/survive on most anything there.

Probiotics are fine: You can pay money for "probiotics" or just eat them in your food like in yogurt, sour cream or yogurt drinks. The only time I don't recommend probiotics is if the body is very weak, and "too much" of a good thing can be bad. There are cases where very sick and weaken patients developed infections from the probiotics themselves. This doesn't seem to apply in ur case, - some patients get indigestion

It depends: It depends on the probiotic, since they are live bacteria, you could be killing them with cipro, (ciprofloxacin) however some of them might be resistant to cipro, (ciprofloxacin) it all depends on the types of bacteria they have.

Epididymitis infec-: tion.  Please continue to see your doc and do what he/she says.  Consider using natural antimicrobials such as olive leaf extract and/or colloidal silver.  A natural doc or practitioner can guide you in the use of those things.  Peace and good health.  Probiotics are helpful w/antibiotics but get multiple strain ones, not one or two strains w/high numbers.

i finished 5 days of cipro 5 days ago. i just started getting nausea.  i've been on probiotics all along. what can i do for the nausea? it seems to get worse when i eat. i've been eating very lightly?

: Five days of taking Cipro and off this antibiotic for 5 days less likely is the cause of your nausea.
Why do you have to take probiotics? How long have you taken it? Could it be the cause of nausea?
Do you have any other chronic illness?

Probiotics are safe.: Probiotics will not affect your antibiotic treatment for diverticulitis and are safe to take. I would avoid eating anything with seeds or nuts as these may get stuck in a diverticulum and cause a flare of diverticulitis. Risk of recurrence is drastically reduced by removing the diseased part of the colon.

Yes: For some taking probiotics while on antibiotics can lower the risk of antibiotic associated diarrhea.  It would certainly be appropriate to continue probiotics for a few weeks after the antibiotics to help recolonize the gut with good bacteria.  If you need a specific brand, align is a good daily over the counter probiotic.
