Healing time: Vision can take up to 3 months for full healing after PRK.  Be sure to use artificial tears frequently, we recommend 4x's daily for first 3 months.  See your eye surgeon for a follow-up to confirm that there is no "haze" that is contributing to less than optimal vision.

i had my prk 6 years ago. now i have 0.25 error in my right eye. can i do enhancement surgery or prk again for correcting the error? is it safe doing prk for 0.25 error? please reply doctor?

: By 2-3 weeks the vision should be at its best.  Little takes place after that.  What does the doctor who measured you at 20/25  have to say.  You values, BTEW, are not bad.

Variable: With prk the surface epithelium has to cover the defect caused during the surgery which can take 3-8 days. Then the new epithelium is replaced by the body every 10 days. The clarity improves with each 10 day cycle. There are other reasons that people remain blurred ..Mostly its not having corrected the full prescription. Best to ask your doctor.

i went in for prk surgery on sat @ 2pm, sun i was in pain and felt a lot of burning in my eyes, today is mon and my eyes still burn. is this normal?

PRK: Prk is a refractive laser surgery in which the eye surface is scraped off then the laser is applied to the underlying corneal tissue.  A bandage soft contact lens is applied to help the eye surface to heal and reduce irritation in pain.  However, you can still have symptoms like you're having.  Call your eye surgeon to let him know.  He may want to see you sooner than scheduled.

Continue follow up: Recovery from PRK is slower than LASIK, but in the end, the results are very similar. You will have decent vision after a few days but it can take a few weeks, even a few months, to get clear vision. Continue follow up with your eye surgeon and adhere to the recommended treatment. If you are concerned, see them sooner. Good luck.

PRK: Prk is a type of corneal laser surface treatment that doesn't require a flap to be created, as in lasik.  But it takes longer to recover from, and typically 1-3 months for your vision to stabilize.  Talk to your surgeon. It is also important to treat dry eyes, and although the surgey may have reduced your prescription greatly, there still may be a little left that some glasses would improve.

is burning or stinging of the eyes normal after prk surgery?

Common: Prk surgery involves the computer guided removal of the surface layers of the cornea to construct a new lens.  In the short run, with healing, there is considerable discomfort.  In the longer run, dryness is occasional and can create burning and stinging.  Your prk surgeon can discuss the best remedies for this.

could dry eye affect prk surgery?

Accepted Answer

Yes: It can affect it in a couple of ways. The testing that is performed during the evaluation is used to determine the amount of laser treatment necessary. This can be skewed with dry eye. Also, dry eye is generally worse after the procedure and this can affect healing and your vision outcome. If the dry eye is significant, your eye doctor will want to treat that PRIOR to PRK.
