Drug Side Effect: Some antiretroviral medications are known to cause nightmares and sleep disturbance. This side effect is far less common for the medications includes in approved HIV PrEP formulations. These side effects are temporary and will typically subside within a month after first starting to take the drug.

hello. i wanted to see a urologist about prep medication. i have tested for hiv diseases and the results came as negative. i want to be safer and go on prep medication. i wanted ask about some side effects and what medications should?

Flonase: If you take a nasal spray once a day you should be OK! You might be able to get a Flonase spray at the Pharmacy and not need a prescription.

is there any way i can have a colonoscopy if i cannot tolerate drinking the prep medication?  i had bariatric by-pass surgery and can't drink it quick

There are Alternate: There is a Gatorade prep you can Google online and it is quite tolerable. Good luck

1. do i require a prescription to obtain truvada to use as a precautionary measure;
2. will truvada have any negative interaction with my chronic medication i.e. lamictin, dopaquel, exsira, tareg, ritilan?

Truvada for PrEP: Try using a drug interaction checker (like Drugs.Com). Some of your medications can interact. I didn’t see specific interactions between Truvada (emtricitabine/ tenofovir) &amp; Ritalin (methylphenidate), Lamictal (lamotrigine), Tareq (valsartan), Dopaquel(quetiapine) &amp;  Pristiq Exsira (desvenlafaxine). In the United States a prescription is required. Talk to your psychiatrist about any new meds.

i want to know if its safe to take prep with doxycycline, my doctor prescript doxycycline as treatment for syphillis. i take two tablets twice a day. one prep (pre-exposure prophylaxis) pill and one cipla actin pill. i noticed rash on my forehead.

Yes: As more people use pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV infection increases, it seems that the rate of some sexually transmitted infections (STIs) also increase. (esp Syphillis). Many Drs are prescribing prophylactic Doxycycline to prevent These STI's. There is no data showing that using both causes any diminished activity in either med or any additional side effects.

PrEP: PrEP works best if you take it at the same time every day. You may want to take PrEP before or after a daily activity, like when you eat breakfast, or when you brush your teeth before bed. To help you remember, keep your pill bottle where you will see it. It is OK to take PrEP within 3-4 hours of the set time. This will not affect the treatment. Make sure that you do not miss a day, though.

Preventing HIV: This is a very good idea, according to experts who see HIV patients. You DEFINITELY do not want to contract that - it's a life changing infection with treatment but NO CURE. I've seen many lives ruined by it... There are bright spots though - and absolutely you should talk to your doc about all of it. You may need an ID doc or HIV specialist to put you on PrEP, since you need to be monitored on it

Herbal: Probiotics and melatonin should be ok but I would hold the fish oil because it increases bleeding risks and if a biopsy is needed you could have more risks.

Have check up first : Before you go on this medicine have full exam and labs done . Std screen, HIV test, kidney and liver functions. Make sure to be up to date with vaccines ( Hep B ). Side effects as common are nausea, headache, abnormal liver function and glucose and blood count abnormalities... just to mention few . Av course risks and benefits ratio is important. Check w your doctor .
