Blood test of HCG: Please see a doctor and get a blood test for HCG level rather than relying on a home test. If needed, the doctor may perform an ultrasound examination. It is not feasible to provide a meaningful opinion without examining you and doing the tests mentioned.

Ultrasound needed: An ultrasound can tell you and the MD whether there is any fetal material left inside the uterus post miscarriage.You are also anemic and will need iron replacement therapy.

Hello. : Hello. There seems to be some variability to the statistics.  With Clomid (clomiphene) there is reported to be a 5 to 12 percent chance of twins.  With in vitro fertilization (ivf), the odds could increase to 20 to 40 percent, depending on the number of embryos used. However, before fooling around with mother nature, think about what will you will do if your become pregnant with triplets or quads. Take care.

Pregnancy multiples: Twins, Triplets, etc have a slightly higher rate of pregnancy loss initially due to genetic malformations and later due to uterine "crowding" resulting in premature labor/delivery.

Twin survival: It is possible for one twin to be aborted(miscarried) and the other survive, but usually the deceased twin stays in utero at an early embryonic stage. And is "resorbed." a serial(more than one ) beta HCG titer and ultrasound are done in these and similar circumstances to confirm an empty uterus.

Progestin: Try a progestin such as Crinone (progesterone gel) as soon as your are pregnant to reduce chance of miscarriage. The good thing is you are able to get pregnant.  We just have to keep you pregnant.

at 9.5 weeks with twins, heartbeats were 167 and babies are 2.7cm & 3cm. at this point, what are the chances of miscarrying one or both twins?

Chances are lower: Obviously twins are a higher risk for complications than a single gestation but with 2 very healthy heartbeats you certainly can breathe somewhat easier. Your OB will go over with you risks of twins at the various gestational ages but i would try to relax at this point.
