That depends on: which brand of pregnancy test you are using. Each has different  ways of showing whether a pregnancy test is negative or positive. Your home pregnancy test should come with directions.

Not sure, but can...: Retest after 1 more week. A home urine pregnancy test gives a reliable result 3 weeks after sex (3 weeks after when conception might have occurred), or 1 week after missing a period. If done sooner, a positive result is likely real, but a negative result may be due to testing too soon and thus lead to a repeat test. If a test's "positive" line is faint or uncertain, just retest after 1 more week.

Not sure...: A faint line can mean pregnancy.  However, if result is not clear, you can get a blood pregnancy test or repeat the home pregnancy test in a week.  If you are pregnant, the result should be a lot darker in a week's time.  Best wishes!

Probably: The likely answer is that the first test was too early.  If you have a clearly positive test, and you are likely pregnant; if there is still question, you can get a blood test to verify at your doctor's.

Maybe: There is a "well" where the chemical that reacts with pregnancy hormone is placed.    If you look closely, you can see the well even with negative tests.   Also, if you leave the test out for awhile after a test, it will look positive.    If there is doubt, you have 2 options:   wait 2 or 3 days then the line will be really dark very quickly, or get a blood pregnancy test.

See below: Have you missed a period? If not, you may be testing too early. Do the test 4-5 days after missed period. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully, including the time following the application of urine to reading the lines.

Instructions in kit: Please follow the instructions in the kit carefully. You may need to repeat the test in 4-5 days. Use first morning urine and follow the instructions for the test carefully.
If you do not wish to be pregnant, use contraception all the time, every time. You may consider implanted contraceptive, or IUD. 
Practice safe sex. 
Get HPV vaccine.

i took a pregnancy test today and my mom said that she sees a faint line and i do to as well. i was wondering if there is a faint blue thin line that goes downwards to complete the cross. is that still positive or is it negative??

: Since I have no way of looking at the test, I can’t say anything definitively.  I would probably wait and either take the test again, or wait longer, and see if you have your normal monthly cycle.  I, also, would think about engaging in safe sexual activity.  Lastly, you are too young to be having a child, and thus having to see an OB-GYN.

After you miss: You can test as early as the morning after you miss your first period if you are doing a home urine test.  Earlier blood tests can be ordered by your doctor if you want to know faster.

Any test can be: Wrong. However, if done correctly and after about a week past a missed period, these tests are generally accurate.
