: That's just a short course of Prednisone, you should be fine with that schedule. In fact, 40 mg for 6 days is not a high dose to start. As a kidney doctor, I have treated many patients with 60-80 mg of Prednisone for 2 months before tapering the dose.

May be: It depends on why the hematocrit was low in the first place, certain autoimmune attacks of blood cells can be mitigated by corticosteroids. Not everybody on corticosteroids has their hematocrit increase. It would depend on many other things related to your health.   Your physician could help clarify that.

How long?: Steroids will definitely elevate the am blood sugars, but the question is how long have you been on them, and what dosage? Longer treatment times, higher dosages, and underlying medical history all figure in. Perhaps asking your primary care physician, or pcp, for a simple blood test called hemoglobin. A1c would be beneficial.

i have lupus and i'm on prednisone. i was on a high dosage starting at 60mg and now i'm tapering down to 5mg will certain foods cause a flare up?

Only if allergic: Foods should not cause flare up of lupus unless you,'re allergic. If you,'re sensitive you may find some foods make you feel more arthritis but they,'re not causing a flare.

Several possibles: There are many issues that can cause elevation of muscle enzymes. The major ones are meds (most commonly statins) and diseases that can cause muscle inflammation of damage. I would urge a rheumatology consultation.

250 is OK: 250 for a short time on prednisone is usually nothing to worry about.  Any change in sugar levels which causes you symptoms is a concern.  If you are not able to drink enough fluids to keep up with the amount you loose in urine then your sugar levels require treatment.  If you run over 400 there is a higher risk of acid buildup or dehydration.  Over 600 the risk goes much higher

on prednisone for years now triglycerides are high. lost 10 pounds but level still high. can the pred still be effecting the level? do i need meds? ty

Prednisone : may not be a direct cause for elevated triglycerides, it is diabetogenic though, i.e. Can contribute to the development of insulin resistance and impair glucose metabolism, a complex process which may cause elevated triglycerides beside other factors. Although you lost weight, congrats, but your triglycerides weren't lowered, don't get frustrated. You may need statins, confer with your doctor
