i am on birth control pills, am in my twenties, workout regularly and smoke. (i am in the process of  quitting) what's the real chance of blood clots?

Higher than necesary: And i know i misspelled necessary. I encourage smokers to avoid oral contraceptive use, and vice versa, because of the increased risk for blood clots. Why increase your risk for no good reason? More importantly how do you justify "working out" for fitness then throwing it all away by smoking.

i started yasmin birth control today after being off for five months. i am reading stats on the chance of blood clots and have myself worried, i'm young workout and had been on this medication for almost five years before stopping. is yasmin safe ?

Alternatives: The concern is over the drospirenone (synthetic progesterone) component of the pill.  Some studies suggest that Yasmin and Yaz (drospirenone and ethinyl estradiol) may have a higher risk of venous blood clots than older birth control pills.  However, there are risks associated with any pill, and the benefits generally outweigh the risks.  The decision of which pill to use should be made between you and your doctor.

can you get blood clots from just sitting for a long time? i'm 21 and i workout regularly  but lately i've been sitting for long periods of time and my knees and the bottom of my feet started to hurt.

Yes it is possible: It is possible but unlikely.
You probably are compressing the nerve behind your knees and this is creating the pain.

: Please inform your urologist about this. Blood and frequent urge to urinate can be a sign of infection. You need an evaluation.

Symptoms of thrombus: Symptoms are dependent on whether the clot fully blocks blood flow enough to cause symptoms. In some locations though, the "collateral" circulation is sufficient to preclude significant symptoms until some other stress occurs. So smaller clots, only partially occulding clots, or clots in vessels with rich collateral networks may not be symptomatic.

: Not necessarily. Having blood clots in leg or pelvic veins would not affect your oxygen level.

Good question: The menstrual flow is actually a mixture of substances, including last month's endometrium, and blood that has already lost the portion that can clot. There actually are tiny blood clots in the fluid and these may re-liquefy or simply not be so apparent as the rest of the flow.

Cotton & Ice: Bite on cotton covering this area, and hold ice (in plastic bag) on the outside of the face next to the extraction socket.  Do this for the first 3 hours after the extraction.  After that it will continue on its own.

Normal variation: Occasional clots are not abnormal. However, it does mean more than usual bleeding and you are at risk of iron deficiency and anemia. You may wish to take oral iron supplements available over the counter. Take the pills with meals.

It depends: Yes, all bc pills have risk of clot, dvt, pe... The risk is also depends on other aggravating risk factors as you said such as smoke , family history and genetic clotting factor deficiencies , etc...  So no bc is safe in general...
