is sucralfate only taken for ulcers or can it also be effective for gastritis when taken in addition to ppis?

: Although some clinicians see no use for it in nonulcerative conditions, sulcrafate may be useful in gastritis by its action which could prevent erosions of the stomach lining in cases of gastritis.

are there any other medicines that are good in treating ulcers caused by too much stomach acid other than ppis?which are not that strong but effective too..which have less side effects?

: Is the ulcer in your stomach or duodenum?  Need more info.  You cannot give us too much.

Think again...: First, i'm not sure what you mean by "way less harmful." neither drug is side effect free. Second, ppi's effect healing of peptic damage, not just "hide the symptoms." please refer to the many excellent healthtap answers regarding drug safety and efficacy, and of treatment options for gerd/gastritis/ulcers.

if i have gastritis or an ulcer, will the ppis always help? i've been taking pantoprazole for a month, and i'm still experiencing stomach burning.

Return to your doc.: If you are still having symptoms after one month of a PPI, you should return to your doctor to see if further testing needs to be done, or if you need a different medication or a change in the dosage of the current one. In the meantime, it will not hurt to add over-the-counter antacids, such as Tums, (calcium carbonate)  to your regimen. Good luck.

stomach ulcers not responding to ppis even after 2mths. no y.pylori and only occasional alcoholic beverage. no coffee etc. stomach feels worse than b4?

Needs EGD: If you were diagnosed with Gastric Ulcer with EGD and H. Pylori was negative. Your GI sp. Must have given the proper Guide line. 
If you were given the trial of PPI for 3 months with the symptoms of GERD and negative H.Pylori Breath Test, and you are still symptomatic,  In both of these scenerio, you need to see the GI sp. and get EGD .
Also avoid Alcohol, NSAID, Aspirin and Smoking.
 Continue PPI.

misdiagnosed with ulcer (turned out to be referred pain from kidney stone). weaned off ppis but getting bad acid rebound after stopping zantac (ranitidine). help!

Might want to...: ...consider resuming your acid blocker drug. Sure, you can get rebound acid production off PPI's, but maybe you weren't "misdiagnosed" afterall regarding a peptic component to your distress.

what's the reason why my constant abdominal pain relieve after i eat food? i have no ulcer and gastritis, my endoscopy is normal. the ppis do not have any effect. could this be bcoz of some nerve dysfunction, does the nerve calm if there is food?

: It is not feasible to provide an opinion without additional history, physical examination may be some tests. It would be prudent to see your doctor to see if you may be depressed. Depression is treatable. Counter-intuitive as it may seem, exercise may help. Start with low intensity exercise such as walking and gradually increase the intensity as tolerated. Drink more water. Wish you good health!

Peptic ulcer: Depends on what caused it. If you are exposed to the same cause you could still get it.

how do i prevent this recurring ulcer underneath tongue?

First , see your : Dentist for a diagnosis of this lesion. Ulceration under the tongue is most likely from trauma. Trauma from food (abrasive, sharp, chemical) or from the lower teeth when the tongue extends over the teeth.  However, there are other causes that may need to be figured out. Please let your dentist take a look!

taking ppi for suspected ulcer, been 4 days when should i see any relief? pain is exactly same, constant burning upper left an. for 3 weeks now. help?

Call: Your doctor.  If no relief. I recommend a endoscopy to see what's going on.  You should have had some change in symptoms.
