Perhaps: I have seen low vitamin D cause fatigue and slow thinking. Usually it's at a level even lower than 20 however anyone with the level of 20 should either take vitamin D3 supplements or get out in the sun. Drinking milk does not help your body's vitamin D level. That said,, my patients with POTS have other reasons for fatigue in general .

my primary doctor prescribed me a psychiatrist for a diagnosis of postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.  i am not anxious/stressed/depressed etc.  who else should i have on my care team to help me manage the symptoms that accompany pots?

Cardiologist: First would be cardiologist to help make sure diagnosis is correct (assume you had cardiac testing including tilt table, holter study, ECG, echocardiogram, stress test, blood tests?)
Medications available to treat your symptoms.  Please discuss with local heart doctor (cardiologist).  Dr R

These agents are: occasionally used for patients with POTS and other autonomic dysfunctions. Sometimes alone and usually in combination with other medications. It does not mean the patient is depressed or crazy.

SAM-e: Sam-e is not recommended in the first trimester or during breastfeeding due to a lack of studies.  It's been used in the third trimester for women with intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy. http://tinyurl.com/m86fras it was well-tolerated in the moms and incidence of premature labor was 2/15 vs 5/15 in the placebo group.  Very small study which was also very short.  Please discuss with your ob.

Urgent: I suggest going to the ER. This is to make sure your electrolytes, kidney function are Ok and also for IV hydration.

May or may not: Sometime it goes away with time. But most of the time it stays. If this continues you may wanna go to your doctor and get it switched to other medication with similar pharmacodynamics.

OCD : Obsessive compulsive symptoms are the most common.  Depression, anxiety, adhd, and drug abuse are also worrisome comorbidities.  All of these should be monitored by the person's doctor.

Pseudo Cushing's: Depression can lead to physiologic changes in which can result in symptoms and labs which are similar to cushing's syndrome.  There are certain special lab tests which involve watching the rise and fall of cortisol and its regulating hormone, acth which can help distinguish the changes caused by depression and changes caused by a tumor, genetic disease, or medications.  Treatment varies by cause.

what are the ways that people tell the difference between kleine levin syndrome and cronic depression?

Different Patterns: Kleine levin is rare cyclical disorder, often in adolescent males. Unlike depression, patients may be fine for long periods & then have days or weeks of prolonged sleepiness (&gt; 20 hours in day), sudden increase ravenous appetite. Unlike depression, there is confusion & sometimes hallucinations. Brain abnormality of hypothalamus & thalamus. No response to antidepressants. May improve w/ age.
