Extra potassium: I would go to your doctor to have your blood tested for a potassium (k) level. If that is normal, you can stop taking k orally in the absence of something causing your body to lose it consistently. What did your doctor tell you, when you put on k supplements, the reason for you going on them was?

Not important: meq mg does not matter the higher the number the more K you are getting. Need to check your blood K to make sure it is not getting to high

One means controlled: release, the other means extended release. I think they are the same  and will give you the same dosage of potassium.

Diuretic use: Low potassium in a patient with CHF is most commonly due to diuretic use. Treatment options under a doctor's supervision include the use of ace inhibitors or ace blockers which are useful in CHF and can raise potassium, or increasing the dose of the spirinolactone, triampterine or potassium. Magnesium should be checked as well.

Need more eval: Sounds like you may have another cause of low potassium. Not sure if ur on other potassium-losing diuretics, but you're on at least some that are potassium-sparing.  There are some other problems that can lead to potassium loss (ex. Some kidney & adrenal problems), that can also lead to hypertension and other problems. Probably should have some additional testing by your doctor.

i read an article on a pharmaceutical blog comparing potassium gluconate to pot chloride. if you take 20 meq of pot chloride and run out it states that 8.5 tablets of pot glu is equal to 10 meq of pot chloride. so is it correct and ok to do this?
