Tough question: Have you had several ovarian cysts during your lifetime? Are there any problems with the uterus such as fibroids, or prolapse? Have you had multiple surgeries in the past? These are all factors to help you make a good informed decision with your gynecologist about what to do, so go talk it over and listen to their advice.

: An ultrasound estimate of ovarian volume of "12.5 mm" is consistent with the post-menopausal condition.  Transabdominal ultrasound may not show to the technician's satisfaction the actual location of the ovary, and measurements are not possilble.  What the transabdominal U/S does theoretically rule out is ovarian enlargement which might indicate possible malignancy.

Not likely: Since you are already postmenopausal, it is not likely you will change status with this surgery. Your indication for surgery has more to do with making sure the large ovary/cyst is not cancerous.

during a ct exam of lumbar area due to pain in lower back and hips my ob discovered a cyst on my left ovary 34mm, it has grown 10mm in the last year. i am postmenopausal had uterine ablation and have bowel problems. what should i be asking my doc?

Need for removal: Ovarian cysts are not uncommon, but ovarian cancers can also present as cysts. Talk to your doctor if your lesion warrants removal.

PMP bleeding: The ovaries after menopause shrink to the size of what we call streak ovaries and often times aren't visible on ultrasound or CT scan.  While many women with menopausal bleeding just have atrophy, you have to treat it as endometrial cancer until proven otherwise.  An endometrial biopsy or D&amp;C is warranted here.

In conditions such : As pcos, we call it management. Say u weight, pcos improved, ovulating. If cured, you gain weight back, no pcos; not the case, that is the difference.  Consider metformin if fasting Insulin level high or fam. Hx type 2 dm.  In many it helps weight and ovulate, you r at 2x risk of mood problem, buproprion can help mood, esp w/ metformin, go low and slow, ocp good, make sure sleep at night, .

Ovulation?: If you are mid cycle and expect your period in 2weeks, this could be pain with ovulation.  If pain on your right side, the appendix is a possibility.  If pain on your left side, could be caused by constipation.  See your doctor if worsening or not resolving in 1-2 days.

It depends: The ovary is not round but ellicptical and decreases with age. Before menopause it is approximately 1.5x1.5x3 cm.
