Exam and study MRI: Labral tears can be diagnosed by taking a good history and specific physical exam with certain techniques. Also an MRI sometimes with contrast will give a good picture.

Possible: It is common for a hip joint or labral tear to radiate from the crease to the front of the thigh.  There are many other causes for this type of pain. You will need someone experienced in hip problems to help sort this out

i have some symptoms of a hip labral tear but the mri came back normal. i have been doing therapy for 4 weeks now with no results. what do you think?

MRI results: Clinical symptoms are far more correct than MRI or x-ray results. Those studies may not always pick up an anatomical abnormality as often as one would think.
If therapy is not doing it then maybe a visit back to an orthopedic specialist is indicated. He/she may recommend surgery to definitively get an answer to your symptoms.

Fresh opinion: If your orthopedic doc and pain management docs are no longer helping you, you might want to find a new team of docs that will shed some fresh thought into your situation. I'm surprised you had hip surgery before you had an MRI of that hip. Was it just exploratory? I'm not sure exactly where you live but consider trying to find an osteopathic doctor who offers manipulation to help your pain.

after 16 months, mra diagnosed anterosuperior hip labral tear. awaiting 1st consult with ortho. recently started feeling same symptoms on left hip. any ideas?! adductor pain also when sudden move

Favoring hip: Since the MRI showed labral tear, suspect right hip pain?  Therefore perhaps you put more strain on left side.  Best to talk to your primary care doctor for help with pain

how do you fix a labral tear and impingement?

Hip or Shoulder?: If you are referring to the hip, a trial of physical therapy, nsaids, and activity modification is attempted.  Then, hip arthroscopy can be used (or less commonly, an open surgery) to repair the labrum to the socket and bur off the extra bone on the ball and socket to protect the repair and eliminate the impingement. Shoulder - arthroscopically, you can repair the labrum to the bone as well.

Not here yet: Presumably you didn’t just wander into an MRI facility and decide to make an impulse purchase. Your doctor ordered the MRI for a reason. What was the reason? The one who ordered the test is ethically obligated to explain the results to you, or if (s)he can’t, to send you to someone who can. You have a right to an explanation in terms you can understand. Ask to see the MRI itself.

Surgery: Arthroscopic surgery is needed if the hip pain is significant enough and/or ramge of motion is impaired.
