hello i had appendectomy  surgery last year and now after months later im still having pain. probiotics? is there anything that can be done?

Pain: Recheck. This could be some type of post op pain and letting your surgeon know may be of value. Another concern would be possibility of Crohn's disease. It might be of help to have visit with your doctor or GI specialist.

can i take a probiotic the morning of my rhinoplasty surgery? with just a tiny bit of water.

Yes and No: My yes answer is not standard of care because the formal/standard advice is nothing by mouth the morning of surgery because of concerns of aspiration etc.   If the probiotics are dissolved in the water even safer..for I can't believe there would be problems even if a small amount aspirated.  Where as the capsule might irritate lungs.

is it safe to take probiotics before or after surgery for a hysterectomy? i've read that you should not them if you have a central iv line fitted?

Its safe to take pro: biotics after surgery, I'm not sure about right before surgery-I wouldn't just to be safe.

are probiotics safe with an open wound following laparoscopic surgery. ive read that an open wound can become infected at incision with probiotic use?

Accepted Answer

My understanding: is that the risk of wound infection may be reduced in those taking probiotics. The hypothesis is that promoting "healthy bacteria", presumably found in probiotics, may minimize the damage done by pathogenic (disease-causing) bacteria causing wound infection. I would check with your surgeon, but my thought is probiotics are likely OK in this situation. Stay well:)

is it safe to take optibac probiotics and kefir before/following prolapse surgery and fibroid removal?

Probiotics: Probiotics and Kefir should not interfere with surgery. If you are taking these to attempt to solve a particular problem then that problem should be addressed by your surgeon first before trying home remedies.

10 yrs ago gallbladder removed, had ibs symtoms since surgery, now im pregnant. do i need special enzymes, probiotics? can i absorb enough for baby?

No extras: You don't need anything extra. Take your prenatal vitamins, and exercise and eat right at the direction of your obstetrician. No worries regarding the lack of a gallbladder. Hope this helps!

just had big dental surgery and  finished 7 days of amoxicillin. may it be wise to take probiotics to increase good bacteria for an unsettled stomach?

Yes to Probiotics: "pro"-biotics put good organisms into your gut (unlike "anti"-biotics which kill bacteria) &amp; include: lactobacillus, acidophilus, bifidobacter, sachromyces boulardes, to name a few.  Most are available over-the-counter &amp; need to be taken daily to maintain the probiotic organism population.  Benefits include: less gas, regulated bowels, prevent infections, improve digestion, decrease inflammation.

roof of my mouth sore. creamy yellow patches. had 6 months of illness, antibiotics, steroids, inhalers. recently surgery, incubated . dr or probiotics?

Oral sores: Both would be advised. With steroids, antibiotics and inhalers on board recently, you may have oral thrush which needs to be treated. Probiotics may help somewhat but a prescription usually will be needed.  But a medical professional should look to make sure that this is thrush or may also be ulcerations, which would require different treatment.

Allergic reaction: Hives can be related to an early allergic reaction to one of your new medications. After surgery you likely have narcotic pain medications, sedative, antibiotic and others. Okay to call your pharmacy about possible allergic reaction to any new medication. Other possibilities exist, so call in to your surgery team as well.

Post op: Lots of causes possible. Anemia, dry, vasodilation, fever, pain and more.
