See her provider : If your daughter has history of recurrent tonsil infections you want to be able to document if these are caused by streptococcus. This can only be confirmed by a throat swab. There are many other infections, most of them viral, that can cause a fever and most of these need no rx medication. Motrin or tylenol (acetaminophen) can bring down fever. Her provider can determine if viral or bacterial.

Should-N0: There are many opinions on the treatment of fever in children.  Not all fever has to be treated.  Acetamenophen is a good fever reducer. Ibuprofen is a good fever reducer.  Depending on the age of the child & the weight of the child, either is acceptable.  Some physicians recommend alternating a dose of one with the other every 4 hours so that no one drug get in the toxic range.  Discuss with pcp.
