Thrombocytosis: Thrombocytosis, elevated platelet count, could be caused by overproduction of platelet precursors in the bone marrow.  But in your situation the iron deficiency is likely the cause because elevated platelet counts are often seen until the iron normalizes.  It is concerning that you require iron infusion and blood transfusions, so you need to determine why you are so anemic.

my platelet count is very high (825). i'm taking 25mg teva-hydrochlorothiazide tablets & asa 8mg baby aspirin tablets. would these medications help lower it? i get tested every 3 months & it keeps rising. also, would a blood transfusion help?

: Hctz does not lower platelet count, neither do ASA and blood transfusion; however, ASA may be helpful with anti-platelet effect in the coagulation cascade. There are means (medications and procedure) for treating thrombocytosis (high platelet count) but you do not need it yet with the current number. Please do not worry much and continue to follow with your doctor(s).

Yes?: Not sure if you are asking or telling us that he is being flown back to the uk.  Platelets that low will cause abnormal bleeding and platelets are necessary. There are several conditions that cause low platelets and a hematologist would be the specialist to see. The initial interventions could be done in egypt and once more stable could be flown home.

No: I would just monitor it.  If the count rises you could have essential thrombocytosis with too many platelets and blood can get too thick and clot more easily.  This is usually treated with prescription medication if the count gets high enough and you can take a baby aspirin to make the platelets less sticky.

If the bone marrow is producing platelets they can be destroyed in the body such as immune thrombocytopenic purpura (itp) or sequestered in the spleen if the spleen is enlarged (eg alcohol related splenomegaly).

Need more info: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, high platelet count is a often an indication of iron deficiency. It would be prudent to discuss it with the doctor who ordered the test.
For good health - Have a diet rich in fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, milk and milk products, nuts, beans, legumes, lentils and small amounts of lean meats. Avoid saturated fats. Drink enough water daily, so that your urine is mostly colorless. Exercise at least 150 minutes/week and increase the intensity of exercise gradually. Do not use tobacco, alcohol, weed or street drugs in any form. 
Practice safe sex.
