i have white plaque on my gums, is that normal? i have had it for awhile, but whenever i brush my teeth it goes away then comes back a few days later.

Brush more.: Plaque comes back without regular brushing and flossing.  Brush twice or three times a day.  Floss at least once a day, too, ideally.  Get teeth cleaned regularly, so the plaque you miss is removed.

i got 4 teeth surgically removed 4 days ago i have blisters in my mouth and what seems to be white plaque on my gums is this normal?

Accepted Answer

No: Blisters can be caused by accidental biting of numb tissues and a host of other things. Go back to your treating dentist and have them look at it to see if subsequent treatment is appropriate.

i have alot of plaque on tooth at gum line, plaque is also discolored and i drink moderate wine. can the teeth and plaque be stained from wine?

Accepted Answer

Yes: The tannins and other agents in wine tea and coffee are fully capable of causing these stains. Of course the solution is proper plaque removal with brushing and inter-dental cleaning to get rid of that stained plaque. If it's there long enough to acquire staining, it's been there too long!

hi doctors! my dentist (rightfully) scolds me about plaque buildup on my gums--apparently my brushing is wrong. could a periodontist help and do something that i cannot do? any suggestions besides my trying to learn how to brush right? want my teeth?

POOR ORAL HYGIENE: You have a positive attitude which is half the problem .See a    PEROIODONTIST for treatment and home care instructions. You will learn how to brush properly and what type  of brush to use as well as how to floss and other home care instructions.

Periodontitis: It is probably periodontal disease, but without knowing your age, if you smoke, and a physical exam with radiographs and a possibly a biopsy, it is hard to tell. Please see a local dentist.

Accepted Answer

Yes : Yes, there will be some reattachment after the teeth have been cleaned. Measurements are usually made before and some months after to see both the amount of reattachment and to see if the result is good enough to be maintained by the patient with good home care.

how do your gums bleed? the bacteria/plaque cause swelling/discoloring/bleeding of the gums?

Yes: In simple terms, the bacteria use food debris not removed to live on and release toxins that irritate the gums causing bleeding, inflammation and swelling. Eventually it goes further down and destroys bone and the supporting structures of the tooth.

i stopped eating meat and have noticed that my gums are becoming very light, pale pink in colour (this is not a build up of plaque), is this anaemia?

Not necessarily: This is not necessarily a sign of anemia. Check if the inner lining of your under eyelids are pale and if the palms of your hands look pale as well. The best way to tell is get a blood test. If you are menstruating and have heavier cycles, then of course you are at higher risk of anemia.

i brush twice a day, floss and rinse, dentist every 3 months but i keep getting plaque build up really fast then only dentist can remove it. i brush gum?

Try technique change: How you brush and floss is important. Brushing at the gum line with only a soft brush. You might consider an electric toothbrush. On your next visit ask for professional instruction in hygiene. Unless you have a medical condition requiring more frequent visits , the a 3 month dental visit interval is excessive for a 19 year old patient.

hi. i have mild gum recession. i've been angling the brush at 45 degrees along the gum line and flossing, but i can still scrape away a little plaque along the gum line after i brush. this whole process takes 30-45 min? suggestions?

Oral hygiene: Your gum recession may be from over brushing. You should be gently brushing 2-3 times/day w a soft-bristled t'brush, and flossing at least once a day. That should take you about 3-4 minutes to brush-floss. Plaque is soft, it should come off easily. Tarter is hard, and needs to be removed by a Dentist. Please see your Dentist now to review your oral hygiene regimen.
