A lot of diseases.. : generally, we think of systemic diseases (heart failure, cirrhoss) causing bilateral edema.  those are less likely if it is confined to one leg. conditions that cause it:
-  Deep Vein Thrombosis (blood clot)
-  Chronic Venous insufficiency
-  lymphedema (from surgery or trauma)- edema more often nonpitting

there are many more, which is why you must see your doctor and have it evaluated.

i take 12.5mg hydrochlorothiazide for bp. missed 2 doses & got pitting edema in my legs, one worse than the other, and my fingers felt tight. i think it's from missing - never had it before, and good echocardiogram 6 months ago. should i be worried?

: Hydrochlorothiazide dose of 12.5 mg does not have any significant diuretic effect so I truly doubt that edema will develop after missing 25 mg of this medication. However, you should not worry much for now, just resume Hctz and be cautious with both fluid and salt intake for at least a couple days. If edema persists or gets worse, you should see your doctor.

Could be : Venous stasis dermatitis.....you need to control the venous insufficiency as best as possible,...though this won't get rid of the discoloration.l.

Pulm hypertension: After a pulmonary embolism, (blood clot in the lungs) there can be high blood pressure in the lungs, (pulmonary hypertension) causing the blood to back up into the leg veins. An echocardiogram could help to find this out. Blood clots in legs is possible, but less likely since both legs are involved. A blockage of the veins in the pelvis is possible too. You should see your doctor about this soon.

Pain: I am uncertain as to what you are describing but if this is of recent onset and the pain is as reported you should go to an ER or urgent care to be evaluated

LE edema: Seek immediate medical attention in an ER. It could be a clot in your leg  or can be a mass(growth) in your abdomen/pelvis(ovary colon) compressing your veins, right heart disease/ emphysema  with liver issues or just liver issues . You need to follow up  immediately  in the  an ER ( so appropriate imaging can be done emergently) .

+4 pitting edema?: Who determined that it was "+4 pitting edema?"  if it is simply localized to one small area of the shin then, a medical examination is warranted.

ANKLE PAIN: You want to go see a foot specialist such as a podiatrist or foot and ankle orthopedics because you might have a possible fracture,    severe ankle sprain, cellulitis or vascular condition. The only way to diagnose these condition is by a physical exam , blood work, cultures if open wound followed with diagnostic/radiographic testing.

Pitting edema: It can come from many causes, including heart faikure, liver disease, kidney disease, excessive salt intake and fluid retension.It can also come from lacal condition involving just the affected extremitiy, like varicose veins and thrombophlebitis.
You should see your doctor and have him check you.
