Scars are permanent!: As are any skin sensory nerves that may have been cut in the mole removal. Sometimes scar revision can yield a better-looking scar, but what's cut can never be "uncut." see an abps-certified plastic surgeon for revision advice, and perhaps consider a plastic surgeon rather than a derm or family practice doc for mole removal; these two areas of medicine are not surgical specialties.

See a physician: A new painful or tender lump could be an abscess due to bacterial infection, among causes. You need to see a physician for proper diagnosis and treatment.

Maybe not.: Might be best to have the dermatologist look at it and perhaps do an excisional biopsy at this point. Wounds will cause scarring and hyperpigmentation. Please do not pick at moles. If they itch, see a physician

Benign spot : That's very common. It could be a benign tag or keratosis. If it's still there or grows back or u are concerned, see a dermatologist.

Although it is: probably OK, the removal of a small mole is easy and relatively painless. It is worth having the procedure for removal if it is causing concern and then you won't have to worry about it anymore.

Go see your doctor f: You should obtain a medical opinion from your family doctor or go see a dermatologist(skin specialist). A biopsy of a mole is desirable if it is changing or growing. Good luck.

It better!!: And if it doesn't, get it checked-out. Give it two weeks. A dermatologist would be your best bet, but your regular doctor could at least give you a good first opinion. Any mole that won't heal after being scratched, or grows in size, or has different colors in it or has rough edges you can feel is a cause for concern So is one that talks to you at night, but that would be a separate problem.

Is it a mole?: There are skin growth that look like but are not moles.  It's a good idea for your doctor to evaluate the area especially if it recurs.

my friend got a mole removed the other day and now the skin that was underneath is a tar black. is that normal?

Cautery: The doctor that removed the mole probably used either electrocautery or silver nitrate to control the bleeding after removal of the mole. Either method would turn the tissue underneath black.
