Cautery: The doctor that removed the mole probably used either electrocautery or silver nitrate to control the bleeding after removal of the mole. Either method would turn the tissue underneath black.

Cells that make up: moles are deeper in the skin. So shaving off a mole will frequently not remove the entire mole, so when top is cut off the melanocytes can be more noticeable than before biopsy!
