Several.: Swimming. Aqua-aerobics. Weight training. Etc.  When fractures heal, wearing an ankle brace and using a schwinn-airdyne would be best! other sporting activities can be aqdapted, but check with your orthopedist!

Fracture: If you have an ankle fracture i would not do any physical therapy exercises until the cast or boot is removed and fracture healing is observed on x-ray.

my 7 year old son broke his lower leg (tibia / fibia fracture) skiing 4 mo's ago and has recovered.  but he has yet to gain his full mobility.  should he do physical therapy?  he's a pretty active boy

Disuse atrophy: While he was in a cast his muscles weakened because of disuse. Physical therapy is an excellent idea for him to restore his muscles.

Orthopedic doctor: For ankle fracture, you really need to see an orthopedic physician to examine you and review xrays.  Only then can s/he assess the fracture and what treatments are needed -- in some cases this could be surgery.  In the meantime, stay off of it -- elevate, and use an ice wrap on the area (not ice directly on your skin).

Medial/ lateral: Medial is the inner side of the ankle, lateral the outer side. Posterior is towards the back. Hope it helps .

Relatively quick: physical therapy usually is started right away and time to healing is weeks to months. be sure to eat healthy including adequate calcium, vitD and protein and get adequate rest.

Common: It is common to have residual pain after a significant fracture of the ankle requiring 2 surgeries.  Obviously there is a lot of stress in everyday life on the foot and ankle and since you have had the injury there may be abnormal pain signals as well as some degeneration of the joints.  Talk to your orthopedic doctor.

it has been 2 weeks since i had my ankle fracture and my doctor said i need to put screws to fix my medial malleolus. is it too late now to put them?

Can be repaired: You need to have your ankle re-evaluated and talk with your doctor about your options. You can have surgery if necessary following x-rays and mri.
