You want to emphasize diet, exercise and weight loss - plus metformin if indicated- so that you improve your weight and Insulin resistance before your blood sugar gets above normal.

Serum insulin: levels are very unreliable and of almost no use in a GTT. The labs don't measure them accurately either. Insulin is supposed to increase during a GTT and will go up more if you are overweight and insulin resistant. There are so-called "normals" but they are inaccurate and worthless.

Different tests: Insulin & glucose are 2 different ways to measure diabetes. Insulin is produced by pancreas to keep sugars under control. We measure glucose to see how well sugars are controlled. Think of glucose as speedometer & Insulin as tachometer (hgba1c is avg trip speed - ask a car nut if this doesn't make sense). Glucose tolerance test requires drinking sugar whereas other 2 tests don't.

Not damaged: All laboratory results need to be interpreted in the clinical context and the doctor who ordered the tests is usually in the best position to do that. Having said that, your lab results are not that bad. However, you need to consult a Liver specialist as this issue is not suitable for this forum. Do not drink alcohol and do not take paracetamol or acetaminophen.

i have pcos. my glucose tolerance test was perfect. my insulin level was so low it couldn't be found. i was told that's not good. why is that bad?

It's not good: Or bad -- just a test that should have never been ordered since the test is meaningless in that situation and most labs can't do accurate Insulin levels to begin with. If you didn't have insulin, you would have lapsed into a coma from high glucose levels long ago. The diagnosis of pcos is not made by a GTT or Insulin levels.
