i have constant phlegm in my throat. whenever i clear my throat, the phlegm is thick and white and also tastes like blood / iron. help! its annoying. ?

Mucous: It is a common symptom. Please see an ENT doctor for complete exam. And laryngoscopy. The cause range from acid reflux, dry mouth from medications, taking too much caffeine / alcohol or anxiety.

Possible causes: There are a few possible causes. If you had no fever, the likelihood of Strep infection is less than a viral cause. It can sometimes take two to three weeks to clear an influenza infection. If you have fever or persistent symptoms, I would advise a Strep test at your PCP's office.
In the meantime, rest, drink warm fluids and monitor your temperature.

Post-nasal drip.: It's difficult once it's in the back of the throat, because most toddlers can't cough and spit phlegm out like older kids and adults can.  It's best to get it at the source, which is usually a post-nasal drip; using saline nose drops to loosen the mucus, then bulb suctioning or having the child blow the nose (and repeating until mucus is gone) helps the most.

PND: What your describing could be several things..But the first thing that comes to mind is post nasal drip.  It can become quite thick and cause a lot of clear phlegm expectoration.  If you find yourself clearing your throat constantly..It may well be this.  You should see your pcp in case its something more severe.

Check up recently?: Common things being the most common, have you have as recent cold or cough? If so you may still be getting over it. Also, do you notice that you sneeze a lot? The phlegm could be related to allergies. Finally, have you ever been diagnosed with heartburn or GERD -Gastroesophageal reflux disease? Any of these could cause your symptoms and may need further information to get a better idea and help.
