i have what i believe to be petechiae on the palm-side of my fingers (mainly the tips). it has continued for over a month. why would it develop there?

More info: I would like to see what it looks like before giving an answer. However, petechiae can be caused by trauma, blood disorders and sometimes they can be confused with telangiectasias which are dilated small blood vessels and can be caused by several inherited and acquired disorders. You need to be examined and get blood work.

2 yr old has had recurrent petechiae for 5 weeks. on palms of hands, back of thighs & anywhere she puts pressure. they fade & come back. all blood tests are normal except for elevated ana. waiting on appointment w/ rheumatologist. what could this be?

: Although rare, this might be the beginnings of a collagen vascular disease. However, may times in mothers with lupus, the lupus antibodies can be passed thru the placenta and remain transiently in the infant's blood for a short pd of time. After a while, these antibodies disappear...and with that, so may the petechiae. Obviously, you are correctly seeing a rheumatologist asap for the proper dx

Not likely: Local pressure may cause the finding, but usually there should be no petechiae associated with this activity.

i have some very small redish purpleish dots on my left hand a little on my right, i think it's petechiae. was just weightlifting, should i worry?

Not yet: They should resolve in their own in a few days. Remember not to hold your breath when lifting. See your health provider if they worsen or persist.

i have dermatillomania and pick my cuticles on one hand. have for years. could this cause petechiae (formed over years) running up this same arm?

Yes!: Could be sign of infection, traveling up your arm. Is it warmer than other arm? Thicker?
Fact that it's been happening gradually means its slow, not acute. Plus you take nsaid, which increases likelihood of bleeding issues (and advil=ibuprofen, so i hope you dont take both).

Things i'd talk to your doc about next: 
top 2 clotting probs, thyroid, possibility of needing ssri for picking.

woke up with 5-dot petechiae cluster on my hand. cbc was done 20 days ago, platelets 195, pt/ppt/inr all normal. can serious problem arise in 20 days?

Hard to know: Any history of bleeding due to platelet or blood clotting problems? This isn't the most typical site for petechiae to spontaneously develop, however, if there is a disease-process at play (autoimmunity against platelets or medication known to affect platelet counts as examples), then it's possible. Your physician is better equipped to comment. Notably, at goal INR, warfarin can cause skin changes

i have a small area of petichae on my fore arm and hand. noticed when i woke up this morning, could this be from sleeping on my arm?

: Yes! Of course I cannot see your arm, but that would not be unusual. Anything that restricts blood from returning and increases the pressure in the capillary beds could cause that, including sleeping on it. As long as everything else is ok and it doesn't get worse, should be ok.

See your doctor: Random implies no cause.  If you are trying to figure out why you have it consider very hot showers, trauma, shaving, and many other possibilities.  Have your doctor take a look and discuss it with her.  Often time the pattern or placement explains why it is there.

can scrubbing the skin hard cause petechiae?

Yes: If a person's skin is rubbed hard enough, some of the tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under the skin will break and appear as blood spots (petechiae). If a person is rubbing just one area of skin, and the petechiae appear just in that area, then the rubbing has caused the petechiae. If petechiae appear in non-rubbed areas, then another problem is causing them.
