Grill: Besides the personal preference of gold in the front, the material itself is not a problem. The problem would be reducing or damaging your teeth and exposure to weakening of tooth structure, leakage and decay and ease of cleaning. Maybe a removable grill would be an option. Put it in when needed and then take out.

Gold: I don't know the rules in South Africa, but here in the US government funded dental care usually covers functional rather than esthetic treatment.  If your tooth is healthy, it should not be restored.  If it is unhealthy, gold may or may not be the best restorative material.  Discuss this with your Dentist who can better answer questions about your governments funding policies.

Good functional opt: Gold is a wonderful material to fabricate a posterior crown , especially for a grinder! The pros are the way it will function &amp; wear against the opposing arch, no risk of breakage and excellent marginal integrity &amp; fit. The major con is the esthetics, but not a big deal on a posterior tooth. Today, Zirconium milled crowns are supposed to offer all the pros of gold, but with esthetics.

Why not: The old, useless bridgework belongs to you. It is not worth a whole lot of money since it is technically scrap metal, but it is yours to keep if you want. Just ask for it.

Two issues here: There are two factors to consider when answering this question: 1-Strength of crown: a gold crown cannot break; any one with a ceramic surface can break although very small percentage. 2- Any tooth with a crown can decay around margins if poor oral hygiene or high sugar or acid intake.  Each type of crown has advantages and disadvantages. Speak to your own dentist as to which is best for you.

White Gold: It's harder than yellow gold, but it too can be worn away, so wear a bruxism appliance. It will be less expensive to replace a worn appliance than to fabricate new crowns.

Yes: Make sure to disc lose your entire medical history to yo0ur Dentist, including our HIV history. Having HIV is not a barrier to dental work. Understand however, that gold may not be the appropriate restoration for you depending on circumstance, just as it may be the perfect restorative material for you. Discuss options with your Dentist.

None: There are other types of porcelain crowns but gold &amp; zirconia are the standard of care in dentistry for back teeth.  No worries.
